I have no information about how this incident came to be but I can confidently predict that people will blame it on greedy execs and sloppy devs, regardless of what the actual details are. And they will therefore learn nothing from the details.
It’s remarkable how good LLMs have gotten at coding and yet how lousy they are at generating good PR summaries. They are much better at communicating with machines than they are with people.

NATHAN FIELDER: This is one of the most famous comedy sketches of the last 30 years.
*Plays SNL More Cowbell sketch*
FIELDER: Now what was funny about that?
*Pause*
BERNIE MADOFF: They're a rock band.
FIELDER: Yes but what's the joke.
MADOFF: They have long hair, I don't know.

A delightful anecdote in @SirPatStew’s new memoir, from his time filming DUNE (1984).
In the future (or are we here already?), the only time devs will write code by hand is during an interview

Costume Party
Host: What are you?
Me: A harp.
Host: Your costume's too small to be a harp.
Me: Are you calling me a lyre?

I gotta respect Dijkstra as he's my academic great-grandfather, but at Carnegie Mellon we adopt with the Newell, Perlis, and Simon definition: Computer science is the study of the phenomena surrounding computers. And everyone else should, too!

I don't see HCI as CS research at all. It's using science, and it's using computers, but CS is a math field, not science.
Nobody compares LLMs as a technology to shell scripts but they both enabled people to easily write custom programs for personal use

A naive understanding of formal verification might be something like, "Well, if I do it in Lean, then it can't have bugs." WDYM "do it"? WDYM "can't have bugs"? This is entirely the question.

I'm old enough to remember when (some) theoretical computer scientists looked down on other areas, asking whether topics like HCI were even "real computer science". (CSEd, I've said before, is the new HCI in that regard.) But sometimes, valleys are exalted and mountains made low.
