Baby girl (aka Little One) has arrived! What started with a routine appointment led us to rush to the hospital for me to be induced and eventually deliver, but she’s here and is perfect. My friends and family were asked to send prayers for her, I’d love that from you too.
I’m thinking of putting out a box of free toys to give away to trick or treaters rather than selling them or putting them on the Buy Nothing group. Foolhardy or a great idea?
A Runner’s Nonfiction Horror Story:
A week before my race.
Tripped on my daughter’s step stool.
Think I’m losing another toenail, but this time it’s not from running.

“The largest evaluation of an instructional coaching program to date, published this month in the journal @EEPAjournal found no benefits to either teacher retention or student test scores from an intensive, expensive teacher-coaching model used in hundreds of schools.”

My 2 year old has been asking me a lot of math questions lately. This morning it was “What do 3 3’s make? What do 14 and 14 make? What do 6 and 10 make?” The teacher part of me wants to stop and explain things. Am I wrong to just… tell her the answer sometimes?
My child’s Waldorf school ‘s fall performance was on Saturday. It’s m put on by the parents, but includes a puppet scene by the pre-K teachers.
We just found out my daughter’s teacher’s mom died the day before. She (the teacher) puppeteered with joy for an entire evening. 🥺

This is a real problem. Responsibility has shifted from being put on students and families to teachers. They carry so much.
A colleague who was a teacher for 30 years once told me something I have never forgotten: "Back when I started teaching, if a student got a bad grade, the parents/school would say to the student 'why didn't you work hard enough?' Today however, when a kid gets a bad grade, the parents/school now say that same thing to the teacher."

As long as I live, I will never, ever get over how losing twenty 6- and 7-year-old children days before Christmas wasn’t the end of guns in this country.
We rather spontaneously converted our daughter’s bed from the crib to a toddler bed. Please send any tips and tricks for how to help the transition go smoothly. I just got a night light that changes from red to green when she is allowed to get out of bed.
