Time to break down a rough season for Phoenix Rising.
Live in a few: youtube.com/watch?v=Pwo58eOn…
Pod tonight at 6.
We’ll be talking about this.
Be there.
This year was not the celebration that Phoenix Rising would have wanted.
Ten years since the rebrand. Five years since the last home playoff game.
But where does the blame lie?

When these teams met in 2024, a much-worse Rising side kept it close with a much-better New Mexico.
This time, again a 1v8 matchup, Rising have been played off the field and gone down to nine men.
Disastrous disastrous end to the season.
The final whistle goes and that was probably the most unprepared I have ever seen Phoenix Rising for a playoff match.
Big questions. Uncomfortable answers.
Charlie Dennis getting clapped off as he walks around the pitch.
Phoenix Rising down to nine men and trailing by two goals.
Zero discipline. Zero creativity. And despite the last three weeks, we're witnessing the Rising of the majority of the season.
Afraid that a two-red, multiple goal loss to your rival in the playoffs is something that nobody can excuse.
A horror show.
Felt a soft red but unfortunately we've got next to no good footage of it to review.
Jean-Eric Moursou adjudged to have pushed NMU coach Dennis Sanchez over, and Rising will play with ten. Both coaches also pick up yellows.
Half-time.
Not been Rising's best showing, and naturally not easy to be coming back on the road, especially in these conditions.
They'll be defending the iffy goalmouth next half, too.
Let's see how this goes.
Gunnar Studenhofft getting a yellow card within ten minutes is also a difficult one.
Difficult for him to be quite as aggressive as he usually is.
Greg Hurst puts New Mexico up 1-0 in the first ten minutes, in doing so becomes the top goalscorer in NMU history.
Poetic, in a way.
Rising's coaching team out doing the bounce test right now. Quite a lot of the pitch seems ok, but a few patches still remain where the ball just... well, it just dies/splashes up quite a bit.
Grounds crew still working.
We've had the worst of the rain. Groundscrew is working to make things playable. Match officials just checked out the near penalty area, then headed back inside without looking at anything else.
We'll see.
Told there’s a drain under here hence why the tarp water has been dumped there but still an ugly sight.
Will take a bit to drain I’m sure.
We remain in a delay for now, but looks as though the tarp is being removed.
Rain has eased a lot. Drainage is supposed to be good, but obviously a few spots to work on. Optimistic here but we'll see. Came down very heavily.
Lightning is very visible now and looks like there’s a little standing water around the goal mouth.
Have to see how this drains off.
