Thrilled my chat with VT on Ideas that Matter gained great traction! Link in the comments.
It’s been a family affair. Yet, those within the ANC whose friends left to start splinter parties are calling for the heads of those who remain their frenemies in the party, blaming the latter for the decline. Mdumiseni Ntuli has offered a better approach. Proper introspection across the board. That makes more sense
Updated after 99% of votes were counted, slight reprieve in its share of the vote.

A definition of speaking in a responsible and accountable way.
[WATCH] Mdumiseni Ntuli says the ANC NEC must use the party’s second consecutive electoral decline as an opportunity for honest introspection. He says a frank discussion is needed about whether the party has lived up to its responsibilities, adding that the conversation must focus on accountability rather than blame.

THE RISE AND FALL OF THE ANC
A chart by @omtimka shows that in 2006, the ANC commanded 80.4% of the vote. By 2026, that support shows it has possibly fallen to just 45.8%.
The era of unquestioned ANC dominance in the Eastern Cape (and the country over) is starting to crack.

“When [the then] Port Elizabeth sneezes, the whole country catches a flu”. That’s what they used to say during the struggle days. Now, the place that used to have the biggest ANC branch in the country is battling to secure a quarter of the seats in council with a few wards left to be counted. Kowu.

Imagine a CEO presiding over this precipitous a collapse in market share or customer sentiment.
How would shareholders respond?

ANC leaders continuing to say the right words here is crucial. Scapegoating processes and systems, as some do, is not the way to go.
"We thank the people of South Africa for coming out and exercising their sacrosanct right to vote. Our democracy can only get stronger from participatory democracy. The ANC is watching the results as they come in and will have a final communique once every vote has been counted. We are a party that listens and reflects. We will continue to process the message that voters are sending to us."

You ask a proverbial question of self-reflection. Such a question is normally triggered by a restless conscience and a willingness to embark on credible renewal.
The ANC is Not.
And my new book lays that out convincingly. Plse urge your students to read it with deep reflection.
