The Sameer Project
@sameerproject
2h
The Sameer Project ceased operations for a few weeks in August due to lack of funds, and the camps we served felt our absence. The reason is that many camps rely solely on community kitchens for survival. Help here: chuffed.org/project/help-us-… Many community kitchens provide lentils or rice, and Palestinians in Gaza need nourishing meals. After years of famine and suffering, bodies are malnourished and exhausted. On September 12th, The Sameer Project gave out 490 meals of kofta (meat) and rice to Belkheir Nhayeeha Camp in Rasheed Street, Zawayde. Additionally, we gave out 30 meals to children with visual impairment and their guardians who were visiting our zoo. Total cost was around $1,452 with 11% commission. Consistent support is needed for our kitchen. Set up a monthly campaign today through our Food & Water link: chuffed.org/project/help-us-… Other ways to donate include: paypal.me/mahertali (Paypal option, please make sure to add a message saying "Food") account.venmo.com/u/Maher-Al… (Venmo option, please make sure to add a message saying "Food")

We can't send eSIMS again, so let's turn this around! Internet is sparse in Gaza. An eSIM is a lifeline...at just about $5/month! Click a recurring option to sustain connection 🩵 USD: bit.ly/venmo4esims GBP: bit.ly/esimsUK CAD/other: bit.ly/eSimsRUs

Just $5 helps someone in Gaza—a doctor, student, journalist, or anyone else who needs internet—stay connected to the world for a month. we need to do away with privilege theory-inspired narratives of how everyone in Singapore lives in comfort and/or convenience. someone can be living in a bungalow, except it is their parents that own the property, and they might be living under the abuse of their nuclear family.

that despite our wealth as a Nationstate (which is NOT a wealth that most of us actually possess, for obvious reasons that we are not CEOs or CFOs or MPs/Ministers), which also somehow entails that we are all born with a silver spoon in our mouths, and thus we cannot do enough.

what this results in, is a defeatism propelled by a shame we have weaponized against ourselves. it puts our apparent guilt into the forefront, and diverts away from how the political economies and circuits of the world work in tandem to make such extraction and violence possible.

the way i've processed this and tried to move on as an 8Houser is to go "well, at least i was there for them when few cared" and that this doesn't, in fact, imply anything about whether they should be indebted to me. the eventual forging of their own path is for them to savor

one very common but still painful experience for 8H and 12H placements is how people often stick by our side when they're going through a hard time and need support but then, when their life gets better, they don't want to be around us anymore (or not as often)

Note: Mainly for SG folks, might be difficult to ship/work things out beyond borders. May be in varying condition, some have never been touched, some VERY touched (and ruined). Bonus points if you appreciate people like Robert Doornbos or Zsolt Baumgartner.

Rebuilding a home is about more than repairing walls. It’s about giving a family back safety, security, dignity, and a sense of normalcy. Support here: chuffed.org/project/149178-s… On September 29, The Sameer Project began repairing the bombing-damaged home of Lamis and her family of five in Northern Gaza. With her husband suffering from a head injury and a disability affecting his hand, the family had been forced to live in a tent inside a damaged apartment belonging to relatives. For just $1,382 after 11% commission fees, our team cleared rubble, secured damaged walls, restored plumbing and bathroom facilities, and enclosed exposed areas to make their home safe enough to return to. This is what our Rebuild Campaign is about. Helping Palestinians reclaim their homes, their dignity, and a small piece of the lives they had before the genocide. Help The Sameer Project bring more families home. Donate to our Rebuild Campaign: chuffed.org/project/149178-s… Other ways to donate include: paypal.me/mahertali (Paypal option, please make sure to add a message saying "Rebuild") account.venmo.com/u/Maher-Al… (Venmo option, please make sure to add a message saying "Rebuild")
