Launched. Nobody cared.
I launched too late. Didn’t talk to users.
Pivoted 2 weeks ago. Not going to spend more than a month before launching an MVP.
Will be building in public from now, and documenting my learnings.
But this time is different, this time I have you guys, and my founder friends.
Still shipping it.
I’ve never had a case either and never dropped it for 3 years until I passed it to someone I just met to key in his x handle. He took it dropped it and never made eye contact with me again
it was 1am on the first day of the year and i was coming home from a party. a stall with the sign “internet famous beef malatang fountain” smelled really good and so I stopped to get a bowl. a young man was manning the stall and he wished me happy new year with lots of good luck wishes as he prepared my food
I sat down on a small chair and had my bowl of hot malatang by the curb. 2 Chinese guys were on a nearby table smoking and eating a large bowl of malatang each
the weather was cool at 15 deg. it was the best malatang id ever had
It's past midnight in Changsha and I'm sitting on a curb, eating noodles.
The street is alive the way Chinese cities are alive at 1 a.m. A girl walks past and shouts "VERY HANDSOME MAN!" Another stops and asks for my WeChat. Then another. I've done nothing to deserve this. I'm wearing the same shirt I slept in.
The noodles are so good I almost cry.
The owner is a small woman, maybe sixty. She says something to me in Chinese. I don't understand a word. But she's looking at me the way a mother looks at her son.
I try to tip her. She refuses, and pushes the money back into my hand like I've offended her. I do not fully understand it, but I understand its kindness, and that I'm not supposed to pay for it.
I don't know why everyone here has been so kind to me. I don't even know what the I’m doing in Changsha. I couldn't point to it on a map.
But the noodles are hot. The girls are laughing down the street. The grandma loves me. And somewhere on this curb, past midnight, in a city I can't find on a map, I think this might be one of the best nights of my life.
Thank you, China. I don't know what I did to deserve your people, but I'm grateful for every one of them.

I just launched own․page on Product Hunt 🚀
It’s my first ever launch there, and I’d really appreciate your support!
If you could check it out and give feedback it would mean the world to me.
I’ve poured my heart into own․page and devoted so much time to building it, so I’d love to get it in front of as many people as possible.
Thank you so much 💜
Why do the Chinese make some really nice products and then go ruin it by slapping the word balenseeaga on it
TIL the founder of duolingo also happens to be the inventor of captcha
what an insanely talented guy

tell me you’ve never been to singapore without telling me
Most young Singaporean dudes look pretty good.
90% of them work out.
They dress decently.
Have okay hair cuts.
But man, they're stingy like White guys,
go Dutch on dates like White guys,
are irresponsible like White guys,
and, worst of all, they be like "we live in an equal society, women should do the first step and chase us"
They're basically gay Asians.
Met this nerd at a Rothko exhibit the other day. Got complimented on my dress because well well well it was a beautiful dress indeed anyway I thanked him politely without revealing that his comment made my day. The same guy dm-ed me a few days later reminding of my dress (blush) but later disagreeing with my research paper like wth it’s SO OBVIOUS he’s trying to hit on me yet tried play it cool by starting an intellectual conversation, but instead of sending weird comments he actually READ my work. Nobody does that these days! Weirdo. Turns out he does research at a small company called midjourney. doesn’t even have a phd rofl lame. Time to teach him a lesson like a girl boss
trying to look up a tweet i saw and didn’t bookmark but i only remember the pfp and not the account name sad
3. because the ones giving the advice don’t enjoy the same rewards or bear the same consequences of your actions, you live the results
Listen to experienced people, but never blindly implement their advice.
This is because:
1. Only YOU have complete context about your situation and genuinely care about finding the best solution.
2. There is no playbook for building a successful company, every business is different. Approaches that worked previously might not work today, and ideas that failed elsewhere could succeed for you. There is barely any rules.
You’ll need to trust your intuition and critically evaluate advice when making decisions. If you’re smart, you’ll probably succeed. If you’re not, even the best mentors won’t help.
this guy has time, money, friends, insane skills, a wife and kids. what a flex
nerds are so cool
