On this day, 48 years ago in 1977... The Red Line extension to Dupont Circle opened! The first ever Metro extension from Farragut North, the 1.1 new miles of track only included Dupont Circle.

Today is the last day of DC Circulator service across all remaining routes. Service will end at 9 PM. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our riders for their support over the past 19 years and appreciate the community’s understanding during this transition.

Hot(?) take: no. 3+ hours on a gallery car is a special kind of hell. This is a job for expanded Amtrak state-supported service.

Honestly one of the best parts of ATO. Those time savings add up!
With Metro using automation to run Red Line trains again, you’ll notice the train starts moving before the operator is even back to their seat at the control panel. There have been some station overruns since ATO returned Dec 15, we looked into it: tinyurl.com/4472jfcn #wmata

How, in any way, is this "good for baseball?"
Alex Cora on the Juan Soto signing: ‘It’s good for baseball.’’

Holy parking Batman
🏗️ Building communities near transit 🏗️ This is what the area near the Odenton @mtamaryland MARC Station could look like. @MarylandDOT is looking for a partner to help make this happen!

My plane got cut off on the taxiway by an airport vehicle. We had to slam on the brakes lmao. Only in Maryland…

Been there since Day 1… (guest shoutout to @DCDPW). Always nostalgic for the old manual trucks.

On November 20, 1978, 🟠 Orange Line service began between National Airport and New Carrollton. Five new stations opened: New Carrollton, Cheverly, Landover, Deanwood, & Minnesota Ave. This photo is from a November 17, 1978 ceremony celebrating the milestone. #TBT #wmata

Adam even took a stab at manning the powerful leaf vacuum, getting hands-on experience with the tools that keep DC clean and beautiful. Thank you, Ward 3 crew, for setting the standard! Stay tuned for the full feature and learn more about their dedication at dpw.dc.gov/leaf.

Cool, now go say that to VDOT
NEW: as @wmataGM makes the case for more dedicated funding for Metro - like a sales tax - strong pushback from leaders in Va about that concept. Va Transportation Secretary Sheppard Miller tells @nbcwashington #wmata needs to be more efficient with the money it already receives

Neat Easter egg in this shot: the beginning of US 20, complete with this fun sign. (Obligatory #DirtyWater )
Boston’s Kenmore is an unusual creature: a street median transit center. The busway gives MBTA operators (and service planners) a useful layover with none of the usual curbside conflicts and the sheltered boarding area lets bus riders descend directly into the subway below.
