We have attempted treatment to drain and flush his ear, but it continues to refill and he will need follow-up veterinary care. He may need to see a specialist. Behaviorally, he is timid but has allowed all handling. This evaluation/diagnosis means that JULIO will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption. π₯π₯π₯π₯
What my friends at ACC say about me: Julio tolerates attention and petting but appears to be moderately fearful or stressed in the shelter. He will likely need time to warm up to his new home. What my friends at ACC say about me: I have lived with cats in my previous home. I am finding the shelter a little overwhelming, but when it's just you and me and some peace and quiet you'll see what a love bug I am. I am looking for a home with a patient person. I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace. I will flourish in a calm environment and a low-traffic home. I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. Joseph tolerates attention and petting but appears fearful or stressed in the shelter. β‘οΈ MAMACITA IS ON THE EPL FOR MEDICAL REASONS - Mamacita is a geriatric cat that has been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. This is a lifelong condition that typically requires BID medication. I131 radiation can be curative if patient is a good candidate. Update 9/2 - Mamacita was on trial adoption and stopped eating and was returned to shelter. Her methimazole has been discontinued for now and her appetite has improved. She will need follow-up care with a veterinarian for long-term treatment plan. This evaluation/diagnosis means that MAMACITA will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption.π₯π₯π₯π₯

β‘οΈ 15 DAYS IN SHELTER β TOO LONG β TIME IS RUNNING OUT
β‘οΈ DUDLEY IS ON THE EPL FOR MEDICAL REASONS - She is a mature cat who is not eating due to an upper respiratory tract infection. She loves head and cheek rubs and needs supportive care in a veterinary clinic to recover. NOT EATING IS A DEATH SENTENCE IN THE SHELTER.π₯π₯π₯π₯
A volunteer writes: Sweet Dudley is a seasoned lady, 10 years young, who loves to snack. If I gave her a whole bag of treats I'm sure she'd indulge. She started in a loaf at the back of her kennel, I wasn't quite sure what to expect or whether she would be open to interacting. I gave her a few treats to butter her up and then gently extended my hand towards her. She gently pushed her head into my hand, urging me to continue petting her. I gave her the liberty to take things at her own pace and be patient and I think she would appreciate any owner who would do the same for her. Just a few minutes of patience and respecting her boundaries went a long way. I saw her beginning to roll over and get more comfortable and relaxed. It was heart warming. I found her to be a friendly girl who lets out sweet chirps to get my attention. She was brought to us with other kitties and is ready to join your home. If you are interested in this refined lady, come down to meet her! β€οΈ π»β€οΈ π»β€οΈ π»

β‘οΈ CORVETTE IS ON THE EPL FOR BEHAVIORAL REASONS - She is an under socialized adult cat and is not thriving in the care center and continues to display shut down/avoidant behaviors when approached for interactions. She has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. This designation often means that the cat will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption. π₯π₯π₯π₯
Corvette is an adult cat that may not have had many interactions with humans from an early age. She is apprehensive of people and while showing no aggressive behaviors, she appears wary of human contact. It is difficult to predict if she will respond to socialization but we recommend offering high value treats and food to help build a positive association to humans. Please be mindful that older cats will require more time and skill in order for them to be comfortable around people. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home. β€οΈ π»β€οΈ π»β€οΈ π»

This evaluation/diagnosis means that ERASMUS will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption.π₯π₯π₯π₯
Erasmus is the kind of cat who brings life to your home with his curious nature and goofy play habits. He's affectionate, a bit of a lap cat, and loves to be where the people are-whether that's lounging in the living room or supervising you from the kitchen. He especially enjoys crinkly toys, a good game of fetch (yes, really!), and learning tricks for treats. While Erasmus is friendly and outgoing, he does play rough and can sometimes get carried away with nipping or swatting-especially if overstimulated. He prefers interactions on his own terms and needs time (up to 2 weeks) to warm up to new people and pets. He has lived with adults, a cat, and a small dog before, and was tolerant with all-just keep in mind his play style is more "wrestle buddy" than "gentle snuggler." β€οΈ π»β€οΈ π»β€οΈ π»

βWe need your help to find a special home for a very special puppy. Meet Niko! This little guy has been diagnosed with megaesophagus, a condition that affects his ability to swallow food properly. But Niko doesn't let that get him downβheβs just a joyful puppy who thinks life is one big adventure! Whether it's playing all day, cuddling up at night, or even sitting in his special mealtime chair (which he thinks is the best thing ever!), Niko fills every moment with tail wags and love.
Dogs with this type of diagnosis do have a shorter life expectancyβtypically just 1-2 years from diagnosis. But that doesnβt stop us from believing that Niko deserves a life full of love, family, and care for however long it may be. If you think you might be the right fit for this lovable little pup, come meet Niko! We are open for adoptions 11am-6pm.
Thank you to Friends of Loudoun County Animal Services for outfitting Niko with his custom Bailey Chair to help with mealtimes! πΆβ€οΈβ

βΌοΈπ¨βΌοΈπ¨Sweet Moby needs our help. Yesterday, before Missyβs appointment, we learned about Moby from Missyβs vet. His medical costs to date are $6,000 for his care from the vet and he needs help with the remaining $10,000 to save his life. Moby needs to see a specialty surgeon to remove a stone from his urethra that is causing him a lot of pain.Β
His issues are similar to Missyβs and he will likely be using the same surgical practice that has (hopefully) also saved Missyβs life. Any donation, any amount will help this sweet boy.
**FLCAS is assisting by helping to collect donations and will ensure that the money raised goes directly to the surgeon performing the surgery.
