Enthralling SA/OZ Test series. Shame it was only 3 Tests. The scoring rate over the Tests averaged just over 3 an over. The ball doesn’t have to be flying regularly over the ropes to constitute great cricket. England will have to bat long & deep in the upcoming Test series in SA.
How sad that is,James.

Here’s one, Pat:
Mate of mine’s son, a Queensland player, was playing Aus A this time last year.
Now: he has given up cricket.
Why ? The incredibly unpleasant behaviour of the clique / coterie led by ML.
Drained him of his love of cricket, desire to compete.
Never shuts up on the field. No filter. Mindless drivel…

No fan of Marnus then Pat? What makes him worse than the rest of the Aussies?
He’s an interesting contrast…….uncertain & diffident when batting in recent series yet in your face & obnoxious in the field. When you consider the fine Oz batsmen of the past who couldn’t hold down a place in the side, Labuschagne is lucky to have hung on so long.

Labuschagne .... sporting karma so good to see ... a very unlikeable caricature
So which team will be the No 1 Test side this time tomorrow? Chasing 288, Oz need a couple of hrs mayhem from Travis Head but on a slow, turning pitch the spin of Harmer could be decisive. As long as that gobby passenger Labuschange fails again, I don’t mind who wins.
Gripping Test Match, 4th day, in Cape Town. SA scoring under 3 an over but doesn’t matter. A lead of anything over 200 will test Oz. Truly a 5 day Test is the supreme sporting contest. Who remembers a T20 a couple of days later?
Another fascinating, fluctuating day in the SA v OZ Test series. Bavuma, after his superb 179 in the last Test, gets a third-ball nought today. This great game can always bite you on the backside!

October 26th has always been a red-letter day: In 1985 Marty McFly went back 30 years in Back To The Future and this year it marks the publication of my darts book Champions: The Golden Age Of Darts @pitchpublishing - you can buy it here

Another stylish @AstonVilla player. Not true that Saunders only rated hard nuts.
I can still see Brian Little skinning Joey Jones on the right wing that night. What a player Brian was. Very sad when he retired prematurely.

Nine-year-old me was there, and it was the day I became a devout Villa supporter. Can’t tell you how happy I am with the club right now.
The captains & the kings depart,Sean. It was time to go - but well remembered!

@patmurphybbc coming up 12 months Pat do you miss working on Saturday it feels still feels strange tuning into the world service through ABC News radio and not having you covering the midlands
1976. Six months later Liverpool - Keegan et al - won the European Cup. I took a notion to get in a cab with my flat mate from the Pebble Mill studios after Midlands Today - paying on the night - and within half an hour we’re on the Holte End. Happy days!

I remember that night in 1975 Pat. Such a shame the cameras weren’t there to witness it too
Best @AstonVilla performance I’ve seen was the 5/1 demolition of a formidable Liverpool in Dec 1976. Power, pace & deadly finishing. Ran them ragged. This Villa squad have the potential. So refreshing to see the ball played upfield at speed, compared to the focus on possession.

And Saunders revamped an excellent side after losing Cropley,Little Gidman and Gray. Emery is longest serving manager since Emery as well which is a wild statement considering it was over 42 years since he left.
Ron, not Dean!
