Remembering the great Pharoah Sanders who was born on this day in 1940. Known for his overblowing, harmonic, and multiphonic techniques on the saxophone, as well as his use of “sheets of sound,” Sanders was a member of John Coltrane’s groups of the mid-1960s and released over 30 albums as a leader. Sanders’ music has been called spiritual jazz due to his inspiration in religious concepts such as Karma and Tawhid, and his rich, meditative aesthetic. This style is seen as a continuation of Coltrane’s work on albums such as A Love Supreme. As a result, Sanders was considered to have been a disciple of Coltrane or, as Albert Ayler said, “Trane was the Father, Pharoah was the Son, I am the Holy Ghost”. Here, he is performing “The Creator Has A Master Plan/Thembi” with pianist John Hicks live in Germany, 1986.

Remembering the great Thelonious Monk who was born on this day in 1917. Known as one of the first creators of modern jazz, Monk’s music was known for its humorous, almost playful, quality. His playing was percussive and sparse, often being described as “angular,” and he used complex and dissonant harmonies and unusual intervals and rhythms. He was also one of the most prolific composers in the history of jazz. Many of his compositions, which were generally written in the 12-bar blues or the 32-bar ballad form, became jazz standards. Among his best-known works are “Well, You Needn’t,” “I Mean You,” “Straight, No Chaser,” “Criss-Cross,” “Mysterioso,” “Epistrophy,” “Blue Monk,” and “ ’Round Midnight.” Here, he is performing “I’m Getting Sentimental Over You” with Charlie Rouse on saxophone, Larry Gales on bass and Ben Riley on drums live in France, 1966.

Rep. @AOC says @KamalaHarris is "more than up to the task." Also warns re: Harris: "It's going to be very important that we brace ourselves for some of the unfair, misogynistic, and racial undertones, overtones, explicit attacks and implicit attacks that she may be subject to."

Explosive report by Channel 4 News into racism, Islamophobia and hatred towards refugees in the Reform party Cathy Newman, "Nigel Farage has always insisted his Reform party is not racist, or extremist, dismissing unsavoury comments as pub banter" "We've been undercover inside his Clacton campaign and discovered shocking examples of both.. Including conversations with the senior campaign team which raises questions on whether the party may have breached legal spending limits" Andrew Parker, Reform UK volunteer said the following: ..The immigration thing, use the word illegal.. Especially if you open the door and they're a bunch of p*kis ..(Muslims are) sick mate. Sick m*therf*ckers.. (Islam) is a cult.. It's the most disgusting cult out.. We're f*cking kicking all the Muslims out of the mosques and turning them into Wetherspoons ..I've always been a Tory voter and what annoys me is that that f*cking p*ki we're got in (Rishi Sunak).. What good is he? He's just wet ..Climate change is complete sh*t ..Get young recruits with guns on the f*cking beach, target practice.. F*cking shoot them (asylum seekers coming over on small boats) ..Ringfence Bradfordistan.. Round the f*ckers up.. Do that f*ckig lot as well ..The reason I'm voting Reform is that Rishi Sunak isn't worth p*ssing on to be honest
