We can fix everything! So let’s fix how decisions are made at your company. Decisions require access to company knowledge. At @arkency We have defined 6 levels of knowledge maturity: Level 0: written sources Level 1: one silo Level 2: semantic search Level 3: the LLM organizes knowledge Level 4: a knowledge graph Level 5: a graph you can rely on Read more and fix your company: blog.arkency.com/6-levels-of…

Three things to invest in as a software engineer: a standing desk to work at, knowledge of DDD, and communication skills

Show me the MD! Surprisingly often, all those recent conversations about "high-level AI concepts" end up on "well, I have a skill/MD that does the job". Totally fine! We are all juniors with this ;) blog.arkency.com/we-are-all-…

Getting more and more convinced that if you understand the "shared language" of your codebase... (i.e. the terms used, the names for things, relationships between them) ...AND those terms are used consistently in the codebase, then you understand the codebase. Whether you read the actual code or not. DDD has never been more powerful.

The dependencies in your Rails app are real, but a schema is not a boundary; it just hands every context a key to every other context's filing cabinet. New post on bounded contexts, what they cost, and why the bill arrives later than you expect. paweldabrowski.com/farewell-…

I strongly agree with Weaver's "Callbacks Are Not Invariants": callbacks can't keep their promise, writes go through one door. The ingress doesn't own the invariant. The aggregate does. And the persisted fact, not the outbox, makes effects recoverable. blog.arkency.com/ingress-is-…

I just found an interesting case where DDD wears infrastructure clothes. In the book Designing Data-Intensive Applications by M. Kleppmann and C. Riccomini, there is a chapter about Cloud vs. Self-Hosting: > A common rule of thumb is that things that are a core competency or a competitive advantage of your organization should be done in-house This is literally the core subdomain concept from DDD. It's interesting to see that once you start using DDD, you begin to see patterns in various places, not necessarily connected to the code.

We are helping Rails teams to adopt AI, some thoughts: 1. The battle for the AI tooling. It's not over yet. At least in the B2B segment. The companies choose all possible combinations - Claude, OpenCode, Codex, Cursor, Copilot 2. In large apps the 10x factor is there, not in generating code but in analysing/researching existing codebase 3. Long postponed refactorings (due to costs) are now back to the table. Thanks to agents/skills we can automate a lot of this.

AI made Architecture important again. That was my main take away from the @RubyConfAT in Vienna. With all the agents doing coding for us, this is now the biggest responsibility for humans. Keep your Rails app well modularized, use packwerk to enforce boundaries.

So I guess that's how that feels.. I'm on the #layoff train as of today. If anyone needs or knows someone who needs hard working hands-on @rails leadership send me a message please.

🚀RailsEventStore 2.19.1 is out. Starting 🔫 for 3.0 — big deprecation wave: old Projection API, apply_* convention, class subscribers, RailsEventStore:: aliases, AggregateRoot::Configuration and more. Also: functional index for as_of queries. Grab .1, not .0. Details below👇
