The ICWA hosted the Fifth Indo-German Track 1.5 Strategic Dialogue on 7 October 2026 in collaboration with RIS, at #SapruHouse, New Delhi. The first session was chaired by Amb. Manjeev Singh Puri @ambmanjeevpuri. The speakers were Ms. Mahima Duggal @mahimaduggal, Research Fellow, GIGA @GIGA_Institute, Prof. Dr. Miriam Prys-Hansen @m_prys, Lead Research Fellow, GIGA, Dr. Priyadarshi Dash @pdash76, Associate Professor, RIS @RIS_NewDelhi and Dr. Himani Pant @himanipant13 , Research Fellow, ICWA.
The speakers highlighted both India and Germany share a similar history of institution building and the need for a rules-based order but they come to these from different perspectives. It was further highlighted that there is a recalibration in the alliance and trust is being questioned. It was emphasized that the global south should be viewed as a stake holder not just the voice. India-Germany relationship has seen a big leap in recent years. Nonetheless, the session also highlighted the differences and convergences on how both the countries look at strategic autonomy, multipolarity and the existing global governance institutions. During the discussions it was pointed that while they may have divergences of views on issues, it should not be a roadblock. The partnership that was born of necessity needs to become one based on choice.
