With all the recent exposes, I think it’s time you sat with yourself, truly sat with yourself. Ask: what is the purpose of it all? Why do I believe the things I believe? Have I been indoctrinated? If so, what exactly am I being taught to love, and what am I being conditioned to hate? You must have the courage to face these questions, not fleetingly, but fully, and to sit with the discomfort that comes with them until clarity finds you. Ask yourself: why do these people push these ideals so fervently? Why am I so receptive to them? Why do I allow certain narratives to slip past my defenses—do I even have defenses?—and take root in my mind? Even me, yes, me, the one you’re reading, you must ask yourself: am I indoctrinating you in ways you haven’t realized? Have my words, my ideas, or my tone shaped you into someone you no longer recognize? And if that is the case, what will you do about it? Sit with yourself. Sit with your influences. Interrogate everything you’ve ever learned or absorbed from this space; from me, from others, from those you admire and retweet without question, and ask yourself one simple, uncomfortable question: why?
