Today, we remember the deadly tragedy of Novi Sad, which claimed the lives of 16 innocent people.
This tragic incident was the result of the collapse of a newly renovated canopy at the Novi Sad railway station, which exposed the deep corruption, impunity, and mishandling of the investigation of Vučić's government. This sparked mass protests led by students, demanding justice, accountability, and the end of government corruption.
The PES has always stood with the students and citizens of Serbia in their demand for accountability and the truth. After two years of protests, the largest demonstrations in Serbia’s history, and despite constant repression of protesters, civil society and the media, the students and democracy prevailed.
Now Serbia has new hope with the recent electoral win of the Student List. Hope for real accountability and answers for citizens, for rebuilding democracy and trust in institutions, and for Serbia's return to its path towards EU membership.
👩⚕️Today we celebrate the International Day of Care and Support.
Women perform more than three-quarters of all unpaid care work globally, 3.2 times as much as men. Paid care work is also predominantly done by women, and remains undervalued, with low wages and precarious working conditions.
We fight for the full recognition and valuing of both paid and unpaid care work. This means closing the gender care, pay, and pension gaps and ensuring accessible, affordable care services. This is essential for our societies to function.
