20 years ago, nobody cared about moving to Cape Town.
It was called Slaapstad.
It was a holiday destination and a varsity for the rich kids from Joburg.
The mountain isn't new. Foreigners enjoying wine isn't new.
Europeans have always had more money than us.
But you know what did happen in the past decade?
JHB collapsed.
The result? Semigration on a grand scale.
It's not the only reason why CPT house prices are high, but I absolutely believe it's the main reason.
Put differently, a bunch of digital nomads fighting over apartments in Sea Point isn't the reason why families with average income can't afford to live in Milnerton.
So yes, it would be FANTASTIC to see Joburg come right. Nothing would make me happier.

The most helpful thing you can do for Cape Town affordability is vote the ANC out of anything related to service delivery elsewhere in the country.
Then people will stop flocking here at any cost.
