A serial rapist and murderer would be glorified as an anti-hero, all thanks to the mutilation of the original story in the name of creative liberty.
Just watched #Ramayana A good film and arguably the biggest Indian film ever made, but some questionable creative liberties stop it from becoming extraordinary. The film portrays Devtas as oppressors and Asuras as victims. For the first 30 minutes, it almost feels like the Devtas are villains and Ravana is fighting for the oppressed. Even a Lanka scene before his confrontation with his brother-in-law Vidyujjihva highlights Ravana's respect for women. Some creative choices are difficult to digest. Performance-wise, Ranbir, Yash, Ravi Dubey and Arun Govil Ji are impressive. Sai Pallavi, however, is completely miscast. The VFX are fantastic, barring some weak monster CGI. Some dramatic portions have unnecessary daily-soap-style melodrama, while the emotional impact is largely missing, except for Ram Ji's Vanvas and Jatayu's death. AR Rahman's music is disappointing, although the BGM works well in parts, with some noticeable Hans Zimmer influence. #Yash is phenomenal, especially in the ten-headed Ravana sequence. Overall, it's Ravan's (Yash) show. With better creative choices and stronger emotional writing, this could have been extraordinary. A good theatrical experience with noticeable shortcomings. Some people are innocent because they don't know anything, but Shiva (Dakshina Murthy) is Bholenath because He knows everything. He knows same soul is present in both Devas & Asuras, so He gives boons to both. This is why He is called Devasura Varapradaha in Shiva Sahasranamam.

When I was a kid, I used to think I'd become a brahmachari one day. I'd go around telling everyone, β€œMain bohot kathin tapasya karungi,” and God forbid anyone tried to change my mind. I'd argue with them instead. πŸ˜…πŸ˜Ή
