glad everyone is basically in agreement that Star Trek TNG was likely the greatest thing ever displayed on Television.
Captian Jean Luc Picard is very close to the idealized man of civilization, a type of man that has all but gone extinct in today's culture.

theres a billion dollars in someone else’s computer, you just have to click the right buttons to get it out
the obvious answer to this is that the GPUs won't be sitting there inactive 95% of the time. like bitcoin mining, as long as the margin between electricity and inference isn't zero, compute will be sold on the market.
sam is either being dishonest or deluded himself to ignore the free market (or regulate it away).
sam: local inference is a terrible allocation of scarce resources
“a lot of people want local inference, and somehow they assume that the problem is solved now because we have open-source models, we're going to be able to run them on our computers, and so we're not going to need all the stuff in the data centre
but from a global allocation perspective, actually it's quite terrible to have everybody, like, have a bunch of the world's limited supply of DRAM sitting in their own computer and being used five percent of the time
you want maximum utilisation in the cloud if you're trying to deal with this very supply-constrained environment
somehow many people's intuition is the opposite of that”
Billions (in property damage)
If you think tides are high in Southern California now, just wait until king tides arrive from November to January.
LA and San Diego just saw their highest tides on record Tuesday, but the Christmas Eve king tide will likely run about half a foot higher, and that's without a storm. Add a storm and water levels could break yesterday's record by 1-2 feet. Then, factor in potentially large surf, and that's why we're very concerned about severe coastal flooding and erosion on California's coast this winter.

Matt Walsh has no idea what he’s watching when it comes to Trump’s Super Intelligence rebrand.
As everyone knows, Artificial intelligence is strongly associated with old, outdated technology. The name “Artificial Intelligence” was also hijacked by the AI doomsday psychological operation, which was designed to hurt Trump and slow down innovation.
Trump needed to create a counterforce to this psychological operation in order to continue accelerating AI and win the AI race.
The super intelligence rebrand plays a big role in all of this.
There were many components to the AI doomsday psy-op: data centers, whistleblowers, CEOs wanting regulation.
Trump could have tried to explain all of the concerns about these components away, but that would be ineffective.
Instead, Trump rolled all of these components and details into a single ball and branded them as a hoax. This was brilliant.
Hoaxes are a familiar reference point for most of the country. People know what to do with hoaxes— they disregard them because they know they are designed to hurt the country.
This and the SI name change creates a very strong counterforce to the AI doomsday psychological operation-op.
The rebranding of AI as SI also plays a big role psychologically in creating a new positive association with the technology instead of the negative association that it had thanks to the AI doomsday psychological operation.
Now the conversation around AI mostly revolves around a name change, as Matt Walsh demonstrates, instead of discussions that would lead to second place in the AI race.
The most skilled persuaders and hypnotists on the planet are nodding along with me.
I have no idea why renaming AI is so bizarrely important to Trump. Nobody cares about the name he chose. Nobody is using it or will use it. And it’s not even technically accurate because “super intelligence” already had an agreed upon, widely adopted definition. This is the weirdest political hill to die on. It gains you nothing. Not a single ordinary American in the country, anywhere, cares deeply about making sure people say “SI” instead of “AI.” We are days away from a major election and this bullshit is the focus? Just baffling.
