Netanyahu just announced bills to revoke citizenship and multiply defamation damages twentyfold for those who slander IDF soldiers. His target: the Israeli-made documentary NAZA, which features anonymous testimonies from 24 soldiers and intelligence officers about targeting systems that treated high civilian death counts as acceptable — or built-in. The film’s title is the military acronym for expected “collateral” deaths in a strike. Officers describe approving strikes knowing families were in the house. In one account, hundreds of civilians for one target. The army calls the claims false and distorted. The government calls the filmmakers traitors. This is not about protecting soldiers. It is about protecting the official story. A state that treats testimony from its own troops as defamation is not confident in its conduct. It is trying to make the evidence itself illegal. Palestinians in Gaza have lived the reality these soldiers described. Now even Israelis who document it are told they have “no place among us.” Accountability does not become slander just because it comes from inside the army. And citizenship should not be a loyalty test that silences witnesses. Free Palestine. End the siege. Investigate the crimes — don’t legislate them out of existence.
