Replying to @Google
@Google's TPUs are working great in orbit! To confirm everything was working in space, it wrote a haiku -- a little different than our typical first lights. :) 🧠🛰️
Lots more testing to do, but this is a major milestone! Congrats to the @planet and @Google Suncatcher team!

Pleasure to have @_FriedrichMerz & @DoroBaer sign a satellite panel before it heads to space. Our first Berlin-built Pelican is set to launch with @isaraerospace in early 2027! This will be a big milestone for sovereign satellite capabilities in Germany! :) 🇩🇪 🇪🇺 🛰️

Delighted to join Chancellor @_FriedrichMerz on a panel today at the 1st 'Invest in Germany' summit, a few weeks after we opened @planet satellite facility here. He asked why we chose Berlin? Simple: great talent, great partners & a great market.
We’re proud to be here and ready to provide Germany & Europe sovereign satellite services. 🇩🇪 🇪🇺 🛰️ And as @JensenHuang said here, 'the next wave of AI is physical'; enabling real world applications. Space data will be key; from farming, to disaster response, to security, space+ai can help. 🚀

Conversation with @jimsciutto at @CNN last week about the growing demand for commercial satellite data, esp. the scan that @Planet provides of the entire Earth every day. That persistent view is proving increasingly valuable to @NATO allies, helping provide early warning and a better understanding of what’s happening around the world. youtube.com/watch?v=Oz_2xKQW…
Project Suncatcher has liftoff! ☀️🚀
Announced last year, this moonshot project explores if we can one day host machine learning infrastructure in space. After years of research, we’ve just launched a prototype satellite, built in partnership with @planet, into orbit on @SpaceX's Transporter-18 rideshare mission.
This initial mission will gather data on how @Google TPUs handle the physical stress and extremes of spaceflight. Ultimately, these findings will help us explore how to potentially link multiple satellite constellations for scaled machine learning. By operating in low Earth orbit, these systems can tap into near-constant sunlight to generate up to 8x more solar power than on Earth.

Mission success! All 20 payloads were successfully launched.
We’ve already made contact with @Google’s Project Suncatcher, Tanager-2 & two SuperDoves – and all are healthy! The remaining SuperDoves await deployment thru D-Orbit (as expected)! 🛰️🛰️🛰️🛰️
Thanks to @Google and @carbonmapper for teaming together, and to @SpaceX for the ride up!
With this mission, we’ve now launched 718 satellites on 43 rockets. This was the first time we’ve had three different satellite types flying together! + we have another launch in a few weeks from Cape Canaveral. 🚀 investors.planet.com/news/ne…
Up, up, and away. 🚀
Today, in partnership with @planet, we launched a prototype satellite carrying four TPUs into orbit on @SpaceX's Transporter-18 rideshare mission. This launch is the first step of Project Suncatcher, our long-term research moonshot to see whether we can one day host scalable machine learning infrastructure in space.
Over the coming weeks, we'll gather in-orbit data on how our TPUs handle the physical stress, radiation, and thermal extremes of space. Whatever we learn, we'll use it to refine our future designs.

🚀 IT'S LAUNCH DAY! At 11:18 PT, @Planet's Tanager-2 satellite rides @SpaceX Transporter-18 into orbit, joining Tanager-1 to make methane visible and actionable worldwide. 🌎

We partnered with @planet to send a prototype satellite carrying four TPUs into orbit.
We’ll be looking to see how well the TPUs withstand the harsh conditions of space to assess whether we can eventually host machine learning in orbit.

ALT A person wearing glasses stands in a dark laboratory space beneath white text that reads: “This launch is our chance to learn what works, what doesn’t, and how we adapt. Future satellite designs will each carry dozens of TPU chips while orbiting the Earth in clusters, allowing them to manage bigger AI workloads.”

It’s launch week! On Thursday Oct 1st, we’ve got 20 sats going up, including:
- @Google's Project Suncatcher – flying TPUs to space for the first time 💽
- Tanager-2 with @carbonmapper – doubling our hyperspectral capacity to detect things like methane 🛰️
- 18 SuperDoves – bolstering our daily scan 🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️

5th Pelican of the year!
Pelican-12 has arrived in Cape Canaveral and will be onboard the @SpaceX Bandwagon-5 mission in a few weeks. Less than 3 months after Pelican-11 flew in July, it’s equipped with @nvidia's Jetson AI platform for on-orbit edge compute is designed to enable sat-to-sat comms. 🛰️🛰️🛰️🛰️🛰️
This is the first time we’ve had satellites ready to launch on both coasts at the same time – with Tanager-2, @Google's Suncatcher mission, & 18 SuperDoves are all scheduled to launch from California on Oct 1st! investors.planet.com/news/ne…
