5 standout films from the 2025 SXSW Film & TV Festival @sxsw 5. Bunny Bunny throws its audience headfirst into the chaotic, overstuffed world of a New York tenement building where doors never seem to close, and peace is an abstract concept. (1/6)

1. Satisfaction Satisfaction is an exercise in restraint – a meditation on power dynamics, unspoken control, and the reclamation of self. But what elevates this picture is Emma Laird’s performance, a career-best turn that cements her as a rising star. #satisfactionfilm (5/6)

Is DEAD LOVER the sexiest movie at @sxsw ? Congrats to Grace Glowicki and the rest of the team for their sale to Cartuna x Dweck! Here's a clip from my conversation with them - how much sex is really in DEAD LOVER? More on the distribution deal: shorturl.at/zRfU5

THE TRUE BEAUTY OF BEING BITTEN BY A TICK is a manifestation of indie filmmaking in its purest form. This project from Pete Ohs brought Zoë Chao, Callie Hernandez, and James Cusati-Moyer on board – all of whom share writing credits. 1/4 Full article: pointsofreviews.com/?p=2735&…

Ohs works with a “table of bubbles" philosophy: the creative process cannot bear external pressures – it must be weightless, adaptable, and entirely free of constraints. This approach has resulted in five films in five years, with this latest film being one of his best. 3/4

THE TRUE BEAUTY OF BEING BITTEN BY A TICK isn’t for everyone. Its slow-burn pacing, deliberate absurdism, and refusal to commit to a singular tone will frustrate some. But if you appreciate indie horror, collaborative filmmaking, and pushing creativity it’s a must-watch. 4/4

Satisfaction is bold and refuses to shy away from discomfort. It forces its audience to sit with discomfort  – an act that, in itself, is an invitation to confront our own silences. There are still two more screenings at SXSW. Get out there and watch it. (4/4)

Originally developed as a stage play, Alex Burunova spent eight years refining the story, writing over 110 drafts and meticulously painting keyframes in watercolour to establish the film’s look. It’s a project that evolved slowly — but deliberately — before making it here (2/4)

It stars Emma Laird, and if you haven't heard of her, there's a pretty good chance you will soon. Laird garnered some attention in The Brutalist, but this is her coming-out party. She fully embodies Lola, delivering a performance that is as powerful as they come. (3/4)
