Where did the name dynamic programming come from?
TIL the origin of the term "dynamic programming". It is totally priceless. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynami…

The Ocean Cleanup is now $40M/year short of what’s needed to stop up to 1/3rd of all plastic flowing into the oceans by 2030.
That’s less than 1% of what America spends on Halloween decorations each year.

"from a global allocation perspective" is exactly what's wrong with these type people. Next they will take your car; it's only used 5% of the time. Then your XBOX. Then your wife.
I love having powerful computers that sit there and wait for me. That's what it means to be rich.
sam: local inference is a terrible allocation of scarce resources
“a lot of people want local inference, and somehow they assume that the problem is solved now because we have open-source models, we're going to be able to run them on our computers, and so we're not going to need all the stuff in the data centre
but from a global allocation perspective, actually it's quite terrible to have everybody, like, have a bunch of the world's limited supply of DRAM sitting in their own computer and being used five percent of the time
you want maximum utilisation in the cloud if you're trying to deal with this very supply-constrained environment
somehow many people's intuition is the opposite of that”
Altman thinks local inference is a "terrible allocation of scarce resources".
It comes from the style of thinking that leads to centralization of all things for purposes of efficiency. What people who do this don't get is that extreme efficiency in this way also leads to fragility.
Some inefficiency is worth the tradeoff for resilience, independence that we get from decentralization.

I'm happy to share that Mojo and MAX are now fully open - for development, extension, and commercial use! This includes the full Mojo programming language, but also the MAX graph compiler, MLRT runtime internals, and hardware abstraction logic.
Get your agents going!👇
The Python functools.cmp_to_key utility converts a sorting comparison function (e.g. Python 2, JavaScript) into a sorting key.
It works is by returning a custom object whose sorting protocol methods are defined in terms of the comparison function.

At Devuan, we're not driven by profit or marketing. We recognize the achievements of other communities through evidence, not hype. That's why we salute @OpenBSD on its 8.0 release: an outstanding community effort putting users' security first.
Welcome to the world @OpenBSD 8.0 ! considering how AI-slop coding has taken over the Linux kernel, recent Ubuntu derive into consumer-grade and security flaws since the systemd avalanche, OpenBSD is my top choice for mission critical headless servers.

Society if the IETF had early on standardized on some syntax (like S-expressions or JSON) instead of doing a custom ABNF every time they need to put a bunch of data into a structure.
