Merit-based hiring? From the UCP? Are you kidding? Insecure leaders don’t hire competent people. They hire people who won’t threaten their position. The UCP has spent years pushing competent people out and replacing them with political loyalists. Now they want to lecture Albertans about hiring the best person for the job? This is about saving face with a base that has lost confidence in the UCP. With an AGM looming, court cases mounting and RCMP investigations underway, the Premier needs distractions. Meanwhile, governing takes a backseat. Affordability, healthcare and the issues affecting Albertans every day are left unaddressed. This isn’t about competency. It’s about political survival from a government increasingly out of touch. #ucp #alberta #abpoli #ableg #abtory #cdnpoli
The best person for the job should get the job. Period. Today we tabled legislation that would ensure hiring and promotion decisions in the public sector are based on merit, not DEI policies. Mandatory workplace training will be relevant to the roles and responsibilities of the employee, instead of mandatory DEI sessions. Every Albertan deserves a fair shot, and fairness means everyone competes on the same terms.

We didn’t arrive at this point by accident. The UCP courted separatists for political gain, and Albertans have been dealing with the consequences ever since. A little more on that from my conversation with Ryan Jespersen yesterday. #abpoli #cdnpoli #ableg #abtory #alberta #canada #ucp
"There were promises made." Former UCP cabinet minister and now Alberta Tory leader @PeterGuthrie99 says Alberta is "in this mess today" because Premier Danielle Smith "courted" separatists. So what happens now? #RealTalkRJ #abpoli

facebook.com/share/v/1EVQxnd… I joined Courtney Theriault @QRcalgary Calgary to discuss the referendum results, what they mean for Alberta's relationship with Ottawa, and where we go from here. With the referendum behind us, it's time for government to get back to the business of governing this province and addressing the issues that matter to Albertans - healthcare, education, community and seniors' supports, and rebuilding relationships within Canada. The constant conflict and division have taken a toll. Conservatism works best when it brings people together under a broad tent, focuses on practical solutions and delivers results. It's time to stop looking for scapegoats and get back to the priorities Albertans expect their government to address. Alberta’s future is worth standing up for—and together, we can shape it. Peter Guthrie is challenging Premier Smith to answer for separatism within her own caucus. Our commitment is clear: a strong Alberta within Canada.

The Politics of Self-Preservation People keep asking me: "Why aren't more UCP MLAs speaking up?" Having sat in that caucus and around the cabinet table, I think I know the answer. Self-preservation. When speaking up carries political risk, too many choose silence. In a healthy system, your first responsibility is supposed to be your constituents and the public interest - then your party - and lastly, the leader. But when that order gets flipped, political survival starts to outweigh doing the right thing. That's why you're seeing so many MLAs suddenly trying to change the narrative around separation and extremism. The politics shifted. Albertans started paying attention and suddenly some MLA’s found their voice. But leadership isn't changing your message when the polls change. Leadership is standing up when the chips are down. #abpoli #ableg #alberta #albertatory #cdnpoli #leadership

“@ABDanielleSmith knows this would have become the ballot question. And she will lose. If she loses this vote, this becomes a lame duck government. The UCP may exist as the government going forward, but it’s the beginning of the end.” #ableg #abpoli airdriecityview.com/local-ne…

Before the Committee had even voted they released that that referendum would proceed. The UCP just used a 400K signature pro-Canada petition to justify calling a separation referendum. The people who signed to STAY are now being told their signatures mandated this process.

The United Conservative Party put out a statement claiming a special committee had voted to recommend a referendum question for this October, offering Albertans a choice on whether to remain in Canada. But the release went out while the committee was still meeting and hadn’t actually finalized anything.

The UCP continue to strip Albertans of their democratic rights in order to impose their agenda. #ableg #abpoli #toryparty
Protecting Rights and Upholding the Law Rights and freedoms are foundational – they must be protected, not set aside. We will restore Charter protections, ensure laws are tested through the courts, repeal existing uses of the notwithstanding clause, and introduce clear limits on its future use. Because every Albertan deserves the right to be heard. #albertatory #abtory #abpoli #ableg #alberta

Oversight Matters Tens of millions in public funds. Sole-source contracts. Intermediaries inserted. Projects stalled. Now Alberta businesses are unpaid, liens filed, and disputes are before the courts. And the question remains: If government isn’t accountable - who is? #albertatory #abtory #abpoli #ableg #alberta

The UCP can fix and dodge all the rules they want. But the law always catches up. #ableg #abpolitics #ToryParty
No One is Above the Law Albertans are losing trust in government and for good reason. Too often, we see rules broken with no consequences, and people who speak up facing the fallout instead of those who did wrong. That’s not accountability nor is it acceptable. A Tory government will change that. Bill 1: The Accountability and Transparency Act will introduce real consequences for misconduct in public office and real protections for those who come forward with the truth. Because public office is a position of trust. And when that trust is broken, there must be consequences. #ableg #abpoli #abtory #albertatory #alberta
