For over 20 years, I have helped Nigerian consumers resolve marketplace problems. One thing I see all the time is this: People know they have rights… but when something actually goes wrong, they are not sure what to do next. Questions start running through their mind: • Is this even legal? • Can a business really do this? • What does the law say? • Who should I complain to? That is exactly why we built 3C – CAFON Consumer Companion. 3C is Nigeria’s first AI Consumer Rights Guide, designed to help you understand your rights and guide you on what steps you can take when facing consumer issues. And it is FREE! Built from over two decades of CAFON’s consumer advocacy experience, 3C helps you: ✔ Understand your rights ✔ Know what steps to take ✔ Navigate consumer challenges with clarity You can try it now here: 3capp.devx.ng/ Or scan the QR code in th banner. PUBLIC ADVISORY: MANDATORY LABELLING OF MANUFACTURED GOODS FOR CONSUMER INFORMATION Pursuant to Sections 17(p),(w),(x), 114, 116, 123 and 125 of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act (FCCPA), 2018 Wednesday, August 19, 2026: The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has observed with serious concern the increasing circulation, distribution, and sale of consumer goods that do not comply with prevailing standards and regulations governing product labelling. Market surveillance, routine inspections, and quality assurance activities have revealed products bearing misleading or deceptive information, as well as products without production dates, expiry or best-before dates, batch numbers, manufacturer details, ingredient lists, allergen information, country of origin, and other mandatory labelling information. As empowered by the Act, the Commission is mandated to promote consumer safety by ensuring strict adherence to labelling requirements in line with applicable standards set by competent regulatory authorities, including the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), among others.` Deceptive, incomplete, or misleading product labelling violates consumers’ right to the information required to make informed purchasing decisions and may expose them to significant health, safety, and economic risks. Accordingly, the Commission directs all manufacturers, importers, distributors, and retailers to immediately review their inventories and withdraw from sale any consumer goods that do not comply with applicable labelling requirements. Businesses that continue to distribute or sell non-compliant products risk appropriate regulatory enforcement action. In light of the foregoing, consumers are advised to carefully examine product labels before purchase and avoid products with missing, illegible, altered, misrepresented, or poor-quality labels, as well as those bearing false claims or misleading information. Suspected cases of non-compliance should be reported promptly through the Commission’s official complaint channels The FCCPC will continue to strengthen nationwide market surveillance and enforcement activities in collaboration with relevant regulatory authorities to ensure compliance and enhance consumer protection. He is 31 years old At nine months old, a failed measles injection by a local nurse caused avascular necrosis, leading to lifelong hip pain and leg weakness until his hip replacement surgery Four of his siblings died in childhood (likely related to sickle cell trait in the family), making his survival a "statistical miracle" At age 10, he dropped out of school due to poverty but returned after his mother worked as a cleaner for six years to pay his fees He learned chess as a kid at a local barber's shop in a Lagos slum while playing video games with friends Barely spoke English when he started secondary school (mostly Yoruba at home) but quickly picked it up from classmates His mother was a petty trader (thrift clothes seller), and his father sold spare parts. They met in a Lagos market Chess helped him develop a strong photographic memory, which he used to cram for exams and survive without parental allowances He became Nigeria's No 13 ranked chess player and earned the National Master title at age 20 He won gold medals representing Yaba College of Technology in the Nigeria Polytechnic Games and the RCCG Chess Championship He also won the National Friends of Chess Tournament and the Chevron Chess Open He got a diploma in computer science and used chess winnings to support himself through school Founded Chess in Slums Africa in September 2018 as a volunteer-driven nonprofit after visiting slums like Majidun The organization has reached thousands of underprivileged kids, including producing a 10-year-old champion with cerebral palsy Tunde Onakoya broke the Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon (over 60 hours) in Times Square, New York, in 2024 Featured in CNN African Voices for his work Tunde has a younger brother (two years apart) He credits chess with saving him from slum poverty and giving him an "intellectual identity" He once simultaneously won 10 chess games at the DLD Conference in Germany First African to win the Lideramos Youth Award for Social Impact in Spain. Won the Corporate Chess Championship in Malawi with a perfect 7/7 score Tunde dreams of building the world's biggest chess institute in Nigeria . . . . Tunde Onakoya has brought attention to Africa through Chess. He started teaching chess at a younger age to children. I'm talking of around 2013/2014 when he was meeting at parks around Lagos State, just to teach kids in the open (mostly after work hours) . . Today, I am more interested in telling you more about him, and how he has also risen from a place of deep poverty and struggles. He has done soooo much for people and it's only expected that these past impacts would show on him as well You might have your reservations about him, but you cannot downplay how he used the game of chess to bring great changes to children's lives. . . A lot of children now have access to education, purpose and meaning, thanks to Chess. You are also part of his story. Tunde didn't do all these alone. Your support, your accolades, your retweet, your reposts, everything So look at the bigger picture. Think of the kids whose lives have changed from taking alcohols and drugs on the streets of slums, to having regulated mental health and more purpose driven lives, due to Chess and the opportunity it brought. . . . . Tunde can't certainly please everyone, and yes, there might be actions that many people would attribute to him being human. But if children would smile again, because he created an opportunity for them to have their smiles again.... Then it's one of the best legacies anyone can ever have. And you also can create your own legacy to which nations would applaud, recognise and help preserve 🫂 The sky is big enough for you, I and Tunde to shine and shine bountifully well ❤️ . . . ✍️ Vincent the Therapist

Actually, fake drugs and counterfeit consumables are worse than original alcohol - and they harm more people than alcohol ever will. A man who takes a known poison has made a choice. But the man who swallows a counterfeit - who reaches for what he believes is medicine and receives instead a quietly engineered death - that man never had a chance. Original alcohol, at its worst, kills the willing. Fake drugs kill the trusting. And there is no sin more grave than the one that preys on trust. Good Morning Severally..
One of the best things you can do for your health is to cut out alcohol completely from your life.

My name is Engineer Peter Obidike, a beneficiary of the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA). Recently, I transported goods valued at ₦10 million from Abuja to Lagos through a well-known transport company. During the offloading process, one of the items was accidentally dropped and damaged. The affected item was worth ₦2.5 million Upon discovering the damage, I promptly contacted the transport company to seek redress. However, all my efforts to get them to accept responsibility and resolve the issue were unsuccessful. Consequently, I reached out to LASCOPA for intervention. The Agency responded swiftly and handled the matter with professionalism and efficiency. I am pleased to state that I have now received a full refund for the damaged item. I sincerely appreciate LASCOPA for their prompt support and effective intervention. I also commend the Lagos State Government for establishing an agency that truly protects and stands up for consumers. @jidesanwoolu @drobafemihamzat @gbenga_omo @gboyegaakosile @LanreBajulaiye @BarrBimbola @Mr_JAGs @Riddwane #AGreaterLagosRising #LASG

After over two decades of advocating for consumer rights and protection, I've observed that many businesses in Nigeria still perceive consumer protection incorrectly. They view it as a burden, merely a compliance issue, or something to address only when problems arise. This mindset is precisely what hinders their growth. Consumer protection is not solely about: • Avoiding fines • Responding to complaints under pressure • Meeting the bare minimum to satisfy regulators This approach is defensive. The real opportunity lies in recognizing consumer protection as a growth strategy. It enables businesses to: • Build trust before issues arise • Prevent disputes rather than manage crises • Consistently strengthen brand reputation • Create loyal customers who stay and refer others Businesses that grasp this concept do not just comply; they compete more effectively. In today's market, trust is currency, and consumer protection is how you earn it. As we enter Q2 2026, remember that consumer protection is not a cost center in your business; it is your strongest competitive advantage. Wishing everyone a consumer-sensitive week! #ConsumerProtection #BusinessGrowth #TrustEconomy #CustomerExperience #NigeriaBusiness #CAFON #ConsumerMama
