In 2015, Canon asked 6 photographers to shoot the exact same man in the exact same setting.
Each photog was told a different story about who he was: a millionaire, a convict, an alcoholic, a fisherman, a lifesaver, or a psychic.
The portraits looked wildly different.
A reminder that what we see is often a result of what we already believe.
1/3 A moment of appreciation for the incredible team at @EmpireStateDev.
Yesterday was my last day at ESD (more to come on next steps). For 3 years I was lucky to work under the leadership of Arden Sokolow to make possible thousands of badly needed new homes across the state.
2/3 Leaving my Community Relations team (@AngelSantana718, David Viana, Kristen Wolfe, Wilmer Cabral, and Orha Ocampo) was particularly challenging as they're some of the kindest and hardest working civil servants I've worked alongside.
3/3 The agency is in great hands with leaders like Joel Kolkmann, Noah Rayman, @mattygorton, @KatzNYC, @TConoscienti, Will Warren-O'Brien, and of course Commissioner Hope Knight. It was a privilege to work with them and *so many others* at ESD on combatting NY's housing crisis.
He was a great hire then and is a fantastic public servant to this day.
Congrats on @CityAndStateNY 40 under 40, @Car1itosOrtiz!

This is an unadulterated abuse of power. It is a continued attack on Black women. It is fascism in the extreme.
Trump is weaponizing the federal government to escalate his racist attacks against Rep. Omar, undermine her ahead of the midterms, and distract from his failures as president.
We won’t let him succeed. I stand with @Ilhan.
BREAKING: Federal agents searched Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar's home as part of a criminal investigation, AP sources say. apnews.com/article/ilhan-oma…
Mamdani: There is no explanation for these tactics. There is no explanation for federal officers firing this many rounds into a car that has a five year old in the car. Look at how many people live right here. This is a residential neighborhood. We are right here by a subway.
And the pretext of ICE is, in their words, to keep this country safe. How is it keeping everyone safe to have, as you just heard from the police commissioner, individuals wearing construction vests in masks with long guns? Residents have no idea if these are law enforcement agents, or if they are simply attacking someone on the street. And when it comes to ICE, it begs the question, what's the difference? There is no explanation for this.
“…people who live in fast-track neighborhoods are also impacted by a lack of affordable housing, right? This impacts people’s ability to grow their families within their own community or for your children or your grandchildren to stay in the neighborhood”

Helpful map from @patrickspauster breaking down housing production by district over the past five years.

We're putting the “park” in Park Avenue.
Today we released the final concept for the redesign of Park Avenue from 46th Street to 57th Street. This project will transform the stretch of Park Avenue to make it safer, greener, and more welcoming.

I don’t think the dynamics here are that complicated. Imagine a foot race where the winner gets a trillion dollars, but as the leaders of the pack approach the end line they see it’s at the very edge of a sheer 1000’ cliff. They would probably try to coordinate some slowdown.

The last speaker at the 9/11 remembrance ceremony lost his father Michael Massaroli to the attacks.
"You do my dad's legacy and the legacy of all these victims no honor by using this tragedy to spread hate," he said. "I've had to grow up and spend the past 25 years seeing people use it to hate on our Muslim brothers and sisters, to hate on people who don't look like them."
"as a bit of karmic justice, over half of the 131 units are to be reserved for individuals exiting prisons, who will have supportive services"
Thank you to the ESD team and @ManhattanBoard4 @tonysimone @ebottcher @CarlMichaelW @bradhoylman @MarkLevineNYC
