I was very shy at a young age, and it took several (painful) years with a Daoist master to realize it was all ego; a very nasty, twisted one.
It's actually one of the most devastating types of ego because it stops you from fulfilling your potential.
You can't get a girl you want, you can't make money, you can't make connections... You become useless, but in your mind, you think you are a special, delicate, misunderstood genius.
