Bought a crockpot today. This feels like a life altering innovation, in terms of convenience.

Does Drake Maye not have peripheral vision? It’s almost like he’s out there and doesn’t know edge rushers are a thing.

This graph is very weird because within each cell, the relative vertical and horizontal position of each point is completely arbitrary. Like, they're randomly placed to make it more visually interesting, but that doesn't mean anything. (this is not a critique of the result)
A new piece in the Financial Times created a great visualization of the results from this study. TL;DR: Rent control helps people whose rents get limited, but it hurts everyone else. It pushes up rents, pushes down new building, and makes cities worse. It is horrible policy.

Reinventing private lending from first principles
Trump is banning students majoring in degrees that don’t make enough money from taking out college loans. Degrees for social work, art, religious studies, teaching aides, and music will be hit the hardest. trib.al/NmmAzhf

I actually don’t think this is the case. One reason I rarely watch movies is that I feel most of them look bad. Theres a striking lack of visual differentiation. Ofc it’s far worse with shows.
all filmmakers do is watch movies. They'll name every classic ever made. Never read a single novel or watch a play. That's why every movie looks incredible but the stories are dog shit

I’m aware that saying this is really cringe and pretentious, but given that I know this maybe it’s more likely to actually be true?

Messing around with Opus 5.5 while watching NFL games, I gave it this prompt: “Create various statistically inspired pieces of art. Use data points to create abstract artifacts. Think of other designs too. Try very hard, and create something beautiful.” Results are quite good:

Claude also made a web app that explains the ideas underlying each one, and allows you to draw random samples, generating new pieces. Try it: claude.ai/artifact/V8dKmTg7L…

Data is a singular mass noun. If you’re going to do a childish grammar dunk, you should make sure you’re correct.
Data are you fucking morons. It's plural.

If you’re yimby you should have to build multi family apartment buildings *inside your house*
Everyone at this dweeb convention should have to keep 1 server in their home, care for it like a pet, and pay its electric bill.

Doesn’t need to be said, but the “media literacy” people are insufferable. It’s just like “if you disagree with my take you are a stupid illiterate child”

So do people just talk full volume in movie theaters now?

The last movie I saw in theaters was Oppenheimer. Saw Primetime today and the people in my auditorium were incredibly annoying during the whole movie.

You gotta have a certain type of brain to have this information diet and not know what a diff-in-diff is

Ok, I am back to acknowledge this tweet was dumb and incorrect. He had posted a joke implying he didn’t know what diff-in-diff was and people who don’t like him were opportunistically interpreting it as literal. I saw this and also took it literally.

Aight come on are we endogeneitymaxxing now? Obviously sad people withdraw themselves, and having more friends is both conducive to life satisfaction and makes one more likely to text/use social media. Nature human behavior undefeated when it comes to poor/no identification

“you’ve called for a moratorium” … “on AI” what
PabloReports: AI companies seem to be saying that they want to slow it down, but there’s a lot of skepticism about whether or not they’re genuine or serious about their intentions. What do you make of it? AOC: I think two things can be true at once. One is understanding that AI technology can be very dangerous when pursued without any guardrails. And we can also acknowledge the financially upside-down position that a lot of these oligarchs are in. There is an AI bubble honestly, over the last year. The entire U.S. economy and our positive performance can largely be attributed to seven AI companies that many believe [their] stock prices are a bubble. It’s been several months now that I have been sounding the alarm that AI, that the AI industry should not receive a government bailout. And I am very concerned that in this landscape of a potentially dangerous technology emerging, we also have companies that are in a financially upside-down position, where everyday people’s 401(k)s and pensions are invested and have open exposure to potentially volatile investments. And we could be seeing an economic bubble collide with a technological frontier. And so, my primary concern in all of this is working-class people—their jobs, their retirements, their pensions—and protecting them from the gambling that San Francisco has been doing in people’s livelihoods.
