Should I just make a career change at this point?

Iβm looking for the right remote role for the next five years.
Not because Iβve stopped building independently.
Because I want to experience what becomes possible when the range Iβve developed is combined with an ambitious team, global distribution, serious resources, and problems operating at scale.
Today, I:
β’ Lead Sails.js, actively maintaining the framework, shaping its direction, and growing the ecosystem around it
β’ Build The Boring JavaScript Stack
β’ Build Slipway, a deployment platform for Sails applications
β’ Run Sailscasts, where I teach developers to build full-stack JavaScript applications
β’ Publish The African Engineer, covering how technology is built across Africa
β’ Build Hagfish, an invoicing product for creators and independent professionals
β’ Consult with companies on engineering, architecture, products, and developer experience
β’ Write, teach, speak, lead, and build in public
I have spent years operating across software engineering, open source, infrastructure, education, media, product, community, and business.
Now I want to bring that experience into the right global technology company.
Iβm looking for a role where I can build software, lead technical initiatives, improve developer experience, teach developers, write, speak at conferences, shape products, and help grow an ecosystem around important technology.
I do my best work in an environment that is:
β’ Remote and async-first
β’ Low-meeting and high-trust
β’ Flexible rather than rigidly 9-to-5
β’ Built around deep work and strong written communication
β’ Focused on outcomes, quality, and impact
β’ Compatible with responsible open-source and independent work
I donβt want to perform productivity.
Give me meaningful problems, clear context, ownership, talented teammates, and the freedom to deliver excellent work.
Above all, I want to work on something Iβll be proud to attach my name to.
Iβm especially interested in Developer Experience, Open Source, AI Developer Platforms, Staff Engineering, Developer Relations Engineering, Developer Education, and Technical Ecosystem roles.
If your company needs someone who can build the technology, understand the developer, explain the product, teach the market, and grow the ecosystem around it, letβs talk.
Reposts appreciated.
I've prepped for this summer's plumbing course by fixing a leak (as mentioned), then went on to change two shower mixers, and got the sewer pipe back into the sewer pump πͺ
Entering my handywoman era!!

When I put the two side by side, the difference wasn't in the facts. It was in the framing. Jenniferβs volunteer work was "community service." Jeff's was "leadership". Jennifer "assisted with" and "collaborated on." Jeff "engineered" and "architected."

MY GOD...this is so good. @ryancvet on surveillance childhood:
"The baby isnβt sleeping in the parentsβ room, but the monitor tracks oxygen, heart rate, and breathing.
"The parent isnβt at daycare, but photos arrive in their app every hour.
"The parent isnβt asking how their child slept, because the sleep score already answered.
"The child walks home alone, but their location is live-tracked.
"It looks like independence. It feels like freedom. But it isnβt.
"Imagine this moment:
β'Did you hit your brother?'β β'No.'β β'Hold on, Iβm going to check the camera.'β

Another example of an AI agent taking down a production database.
It's time for database branching to become not only a best practice, but a requirement for data safety.
We offer database branching at xata.ai. Adopt it easily without moving your production database, and create thousands of branches without multiplying costs.
Who's going? I'm excited to meet Laravel devs!
Laravel Cloud is headed to NYC. In town on April 30? Join @taylorotwell and @vehikl to learn how Cloud is helping teams close the gap from idea to production.

Today, weβre open-sourcing the core of Xata under the Apache 2.0 license.
Itβs built for agentic workloads, where databases need to be created, used, and discarded continuously:
Give every agent its own database branch, with real data
Instant database branching (copy-on-write), regardless of whether you have 50GB or 5TB of data
Pay only for compute, storage is shared with the parent
Branches hibernate when idle and wake up on the first connection (scale-to-zero)
100% vanilla Postgres (no forks, full compatibility)
You can adopt branching without moving your production database, and weβre excited to see teams run it in their own environments, build on it, and contribute back.
OMG we (@OlaHolstVea, the Pirate Princess, and I) are joining this π₯³π₯³π₯³
Yesterday we had the first call with all the families joining us in September for the Revillage popup.
We have had 41 families apply and we have 21 families fully signed up.
We helped the majority find housing and we also secured a super cool community space for the whole month!

It's been a couple of weeks since my awesome CTO mom passed away from early-onset Alzheimer's at 67 π I'm happy to report the good memories from the before times are starting to come back. The concerts, the large dinners with friends & family, the travels... We had so much fun!
