Every contractor I grab lunch with in South Florida complains that young people don't want to work with their hands anymore.
We have 150 people and 100+ trucks on the road at RACK Electric, and my hiring inbox gets flooded every single week.
People will run through a wall for this work when someone actually takes the time to teach them the trade. Most shops just want a turnkey 10-year master tech to walk through the door so they don't have to spend a dime on training.
We take guys who have never touched a generator, run them through our own shop, pair them with senior leads, and build them into six-figure careers.
My top lead tech right now was stocking shelves at a local hardware store four years ago before we handed him his first pair of wire strippers.
AI is an incredible tool. It will disrupt jobs, especially for those who refuse to evolve with the times. But it will also create opportunities and elevate just as many, if not more.
It would be a shame to see innovation stall mid-flight because of political agendas.

I am trying to be genuine, and post real stuff, I dont really care about going viral, sounds cool on paper but until I am being paid more, I do it because I love sharing it.
Funny story - 1st aquisition, looking back at is, realizing how many things I messed up on, and how I was 35 years old buying a company out of bankruptcy, I specifically remember going to sit in front of the judge with this hi prices attorney (who since I have never spoken to) - and he said to me, just sit there and smile and watch the magic happen.
Well the magic, was the relationships I had built in the industry, 5 of the 15 debtors live zoomed into the hearing with the judge. I just happened to know all of them because I had dealt with them my entire career.
As the judge, read all the fun information, he respectfully asked each debtor if they approved of me purchasing the assets of Energized, and each one of them confidently said, Jesse and his company is one of one - he has built a respectful business the right way, with integrity and most importantly always paying his bills.
Unanimous decision - I was approved to buy the company before it went to auction.
Now the fun part started. Negotiating my debt with each debtor, knowing that in bankruptcy auction they would have received 5-10% on the dollar. My initial offers started very low...
13 years building RACK taught me the biggest wins never came from one big move. Grand gestures do nothing. Review the numbers, tighten routes, and hold the standard on every truck.
Balance exists in another dimension. Shuffle the deck to be the best at every level.

Running 100+ trucks across 11 counties at RACK Electric, I believe most disaster prep gear homeowners buy is built to sell, not to survive a hurricane.
Most online checklists are clickbait written by people who never wired a transfer switch or managed fuel logistics during a hurricane.
Real backup power is physical infrastructure. Here is the 10-step checklist we run in the field:
1. Standby generator on dedicated propane
Own your fuel supply on-site. When regional power drops, gas station pumps go dark and the fuel supply chain freezes right when you need it most. Dedicated propane keeps you fully independent.
2. Sizing for real inrush load
Calculate the total electrical load of the home. Sizing must handle central A/C compressor inrush amps and refrigeration. A 5,000-watt portable unit trips the second the compressor kicks on.
3. Permitting and site engineering
Start permitting months before storm season, because some jurisdictions take that long to sign off. You cannot engineer gas lines, pour a concrete pad, and pass municipal electrical inspections 48 hours before landfall.
4. Dedicated 500 or 1,000-gallon propane tank
Keep the tank filled to 80% capacity by May. Fuel supply contracts and on-site gallons matter more than wind speed forecasts.
5. Automatic Transfer Switch load testing
Run the system under full household load every quarter. The factory 15-minute exercise cycle runs without a load and will not reveal weak components under stress.
6. Whole-home surge protection at the main breaker
Install surge suppression directly at the service panel. This stops high-voltage spikes when transformer banks blow down the street or grid power flickers back on.
7. Well pump and water pressure integration
Wire the private well pump into the transfer switch. With a private well, losing power means zero water pressure and zero plumbing within 4 hours.
8. Battery health and annual oil service
Swap the 12V starter battery every 24 to 36 months. A $15,000 generator with a dead $120 starter battery is dead metal.
9. Manual lockouts and sub-panel mapping
Label every breaker in the physical panel box so family members know exactly what stays hot when the grid drops.
10. Established 30-year program commitment
Buy from an established 30-year program backed by real field infrastructure. Fly-by-night operators vanish after the storm when warranty work and service calls start. Treat backup power as a long-term physical investment for the property, and skip the panic purchase in a hardware store parking lot 48 hours before landfall.
