๐ Nankai Namba Stationโs second-floor Central Gate concourse has won a 2026 Good Design Award. Its new wayfinding system also received Gold at the 60th Japan Sign Design Awards.
The concourse reopened on September 27, 2025, with curved white columns and lighting that follows the columns and ceiling. Seating, large maps and artwork along the walls help separate places to pause from passenger routes, aiming to ease congestion near the Nankai Main Line gates.
๐ The signage received its first comprehensive redesign in 37 years. Color-coded lines distinguish routes, while large platform numbers at stairways make directions easier to spot. Nankai plans to introduce the system at other stations.
A quick reminder coming up to winter season; all mainline rail vehicles must display head/marker lights at the front, and two steady red lamps, or one single pulsing red lamp.
The there is an NTSN cause for locomotives hauling sleighs; the red lamp must be front of the service.

After this week's @Railnatter, I've had the pleasure of writing up my proposals for an extensive Leeds (and West Yorkshire) Metro for @leeds_exchange - if you want maps, we've got maps! If you want an explanation of repeat station designs, it's here! Are trams good enough? No!
ALT a line diagram of multiple metro lines linking Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield and Huddersfield and everywhere in between. it looks sexy as hell.
And yes, the Weaver Network map by @GarethDennis is beautiful! And only builds on the case that there should be a fully fledged metro system in Yorkshire. I haven't necessarily commented on it because my area expertise is slim, and I generally comment of more than I need to know!
I'm not an aircraft guy, but the trail from this casting it's own shadow onto the particulate and atmosphere is pretty cool, if not somewhat scary. I've never seen that before!
