Brooklyn is the most liberal and Staten Island the most conservative. SI is up from 2025, but that was a particularly good year for progressives/Mamdani. The fact that Brooklyn is over-performing compared to 2022 is good new for Democrats.

We have a loved one scheduled to be on this flight. He will be killed if he’s returned to the Taliban. He supported the US mission in Afghanistan. He has broken no laws. He came here legally. Seeking asylum should not be a death sentence.
Breaking News: The Trump administration has detained dozens of Afghan immigrants in Louisiana — including relatives of those who helped the U.S. military — and plans to deport them to Afghanistan, according to U.S. officials. nyti.ms/4jPVvrw

Just watched an immigration court hearing for a detained 15 yr old that started out with the judge asking about his Halloween plans & ended with her ordering him deported. The lack of justice for immigrant kids right now in our immigration courts is stunningly diabolical.

New poll: Trump won in 2024 by carrying low-engagement voters by double digits. But our fresh polling shows "low-propensity" voters favor Democrats for the midterms. Just published this chart-loaded article based on 6,000 interviews conducted this month. gelliottmorris.com/p/2026-10…

The attack dogs of pro-Russian, pro-MAGA and anti-EU propaganda are in full force over what is happening in Poland, portraying the PiS camp as the victim of a supposed coup. How convenient. Let’s remember who started this. In 2015, PiS began dismantling Poland’s rule of law, unlawfully filling seats on the Constitutional Tribunal and bringing key judicial institutions under political influence. For eight years, they undermined the very democratic safeguards they now claim to defend. They lost power in 2023, but their grip on parts of the state survived. Now, as Donald Tusk’s government attempts to restore judicial independence, the same political camp cries dictatorship and presents itself as the victim. You cannot spend eight years undermining the rule of law and then invoke it as a shield against accountability. Poland’s democratic institutions belong to its citizens, not to a political party determined to retain power after losing an election. Restoring the rule of law is not a coup. It is a democratic responsibility. And it must be carried out in accordance with the Constitution.

When Republicans get steamrolled on Tuesday, think of this map. This is my Sunset Park, Brooklyn neighborhood voting in 2024. The left map is how they actually voted: mostly blue in Hispanic Sunset, less so in Asian Sunset (and red in Orthodox Jewish Borough Park). The right map, however, is how the voting CHANGED from 2020. Almost every precinct leaned harder for Trump than it did in 2020. Democrats had screwed up (immigration, inflation, culture war overreach), and they were being punished. My own blue precinct, for example, went from 14% for Trump in 2020 to 25% for Trump in 2024. If Republicans had capitalized on Dem's mistakes, they could be solidifying their power on Tuesday, but instead Trump pissed away that goodwill with excessive behavior by ICE, horrible economic policies that raised prices, and a very dumb war that's done the same. The moment I knew the GOP would do well in 2024 was when the Staten Island turnout was relatively strong. This year, it's pretty weak and Brooklyn in strong. This is a very good sign for the Democrats. #turnout #MidtermElections #midterm2026

Great news. I’ve just confirmed with @nycbirdalliance that the barn owl fledglings have been observed and remain in their nest on West 75th. Work has been stopped at the site. I remain in contact with @NYSDEC about how to ensure the nest remains safe from disturbances moving forward. Thank you to the Bird Alliance for their continued work and updates.
The roof of this Upper West Side water tank was removed earlier today, destroying an active nest of the well-known Barn Owl family that lived there, despite federal and state laws protecting such nests. The DEC is on site to investigate.

The population of NYC declined 1% between 2020 and 2025. But the city needs 700,000 homes to keep up with population growth. Both of those statements can't be true. gothamist.com/news/nys-housi…

Thank you to those who quickly alerted me and to the @nycbirdalliance and @nysdec for taking action to get the workers to stop immediately. Unfortunately, the damage is already done. The owlets inside were flushed out, which was certainly a frightening experience for them. At least one is roosting fully exposed. They are capable of flight but may not yet capable of finding appropriate roosts (other than the original nest). They will need to learn fast. The owlets also cannot hunt for themselves yet and were still being fed on the water tower by their parents. In addition to experiencing dangerous short-term stress, their remaining development may be altered by this sudden change. Hoping for the best for this family. Animals can be so resilient in the face of all the challenges people throw at them. And perhaps everything will be fine for them in the end. Nevertheless, this work probably broke federal and state law and those accountable should answer for their actions. Photo from a couple weeks ago showing four of the five (maybe six) owlets lined up together. Happier times.

HOLY SHIT. These early voting numbers are INSANE. 🔵 Democrats: 44.9% 🔴 Republicans: 30.9% Democrats are leading Republicans by a MASSIVE 14 POINTS with over 32 MILLION ballots already cast. If this holds, Republicans are in serious trouble.

This is from @cygnal, a GOP pollster. Among those who have already voted, 6% of Republicans have voted for the Democratic candidate, while 0% of Democrats have voted for the Republican candidate. Among Independents, Democrats are winning by 37 points (67%-30%). Almost all Republican crossover comes from voters who identify as “mostly Republican” rather than “strongly Republican.”

Alex Pretti's father: Our son was shot and killed by the government, federal immigration agents, on January 24th, 2026. We learned about his death from the media as we saw him being shot repeatedly in the back after helping a woman from his community. This was not a protest that Alex was at. His hands were in the air, and his face was on the ground when he was executed by ICE agents. We know exactly what our eyes saw. No one from the federal government called us on that day. But they did go on TV to tell lies about Alex. No one has called us since. No one has recanted those lies.

Only 31% of people who have voted so far are Republican. That's a brutal showing for them, and great news for Democrats. election.lab.ufl.edu/early-v…
