Midterms arguably signal the end of not only the Trump era, but also the long 2016:
• The Dem left agrees Obama was a good POTUS who faced real constraints and that median voter is mod;
• The Dem mods agree to pursue class polarization and concede party’s prog establishment/seniority system is broken.

I love that you can tell how/when our society fell apart and reality split.

An interesting excerpt from “American Pope” explaining how Bob Prevost joined an alcoholism outreach team in 1978, helping families cope with a loved one’s addiction and reach out to them (and yes, it’s the iconic mustache era).
"He had a great way of just kind of getting in the middle," one sister recalled of the future pope, "and making both sides come together and build bridges."

Slow-building controversy here. Were the bishops duped? Should they have known?
A 4th bishop...
+Naumann: “The bishops were assured that no photographs would be made public. They came to have a discussion on important policy matters. As Catholic bishops, they pray with everyone, but do not endorse candidates or political parties.”

Easily the best and most comprehensive profile I’ve read of Adam Hamilton.
Whether he wins or loses, there’s a ton in here that Democratic candidates & strategists can learn from his approach, outreach & authenticity.
No one does it quite like @realcpaz.

Trump’s heading back to Kansas for a rally in Salina on Saturday, per the RNC. That’ll be three Trump or Vance rallies in Kansas over 13 days.

At the Cheesecake Factory by the White House, I explained Obama's joke to our waitress, who hadn't heard it. She laughed. “Oh, damn, we caught a stray!” she said. “That’s funny, though. Maybe that’s why we’re slow this morning.”

It must have been some kind of divine providence that @lxeagle17 picked up on this as I was writing about #KansasSenate:

The Democrats can't wait out God.
From me, on the disastrous suggestions of the failed 2010s school of thought that said "just wait and change nothing, and enough atheists will emerge".
This was always a stupid strategy.

It’s also quite interesting how he’s walked the line on trans “issues”:
On the debate stage last week he said there are only two genders, and on the trail he says he’s not for “biological men or boys competing” against girls.
And he also says this:

I've had my eye on @Hamilton4Kansas for some time , but I finally went out to Kansas this month to see his campaign up close. How is his faith message is landing? What's different for voters this time?
And are there lessons for national Dems?
There are.

.@nytimes polls show that Hamilton is escaping the Democratic Party’s far left brand. Just 32% of Kansans see him as “too far left.” (55% view the Dem Party as too far left)
57% of independents, 37% of undecideds, & 29% of Republicans see Hamilton as not too far left or right
"Ultimately, Hamilton’s unexpected campaign success so far might be due to ... the impression that many voters have that he is guided not by right or left but his own values, as evidenced by his heterodox views and moderate temperament. In his case, those values are informed by his faith, but for other Democrats in other red states, they might not need to be."

I talked to scores of people across those days and miles, including what felt like countless Republicans voting for Hamilton or splitting their tickets.
Even if faith wasn't the main reason to back him, it was a stand-in for authenticity and independence.
