On a still morning, sitting by the froth of Burbage Brook as it tumbles through Padley Gorge, you can't help feeling that you've somehow fallen into a different world ... perhaps when you tripped over that tree root. Here, there's no haste or pressure, no noise but the constant rush and bubble of water and the occasional fall of a leaf. I find that I always stay long, long after I've taken the shot, losing track of time, just watching and listening and breathing it all in, so grateful for such places and the chance to fall into them.
This is the view that will be bringing autumn peace to your wall throughout November if you managed to snap up one of my 2026 Peak District Calendars. My 2027 Calendar is still available but I'm now running low on stock - so if you would like one for only ยฃ10.95 + UK P&P please see the link in the comments below or in my bio. Thank you.

This week's Friday pub is the Queen's Park Cafe on Victoria Rd. There has been a pub on this site since 1870. It was run by John A McArthur until the mid-1870s, and his wife Margaret took control of the business after his death until 1885. It was then sold to Alexander Sutherland

Warm Heartedness Is the Key - His Holiness the Dalai Lama explains that with a warm heart, everything looks more positive, while a self-centered mind sees only negativity and fear. Our intelligence needs a warm heart; without one, it can become dangerous. Video originally recorded on November 11, 2019.

If you're feeling the worries and noise of the world at the moment, I'm sending you this beautiful walk among the chestnut trees, the pale sun flickering through the leaves and falling in pools of light on the ground. The river is sparkling at the end of the lane, and all around the birds are singing out into the morning as the mist clears. I hope it brings a little Peak District calm to your day.

The dogs have had their friends round.
Here they are posing beautifully by the farm gate, looking like respectable members of society. Polite, obedient and apparently blessed with impeccable manners.
Please do not be taken in by this blatant misinformation. Approximately three seconds later, all civilised behaviour was abandoned. Mud was redistributed across several acres, the fields became a racetrack, and some deeply questionable decisions were made at considerable speed.
A splendid afternoon was had by all. Standards were briefly observed, then comprehensively abandoned. ๐๐

Beautiful
A man suddenly approaches a group of street musicians and asks, โCan I play with you? Iโve got my pan flute.โ When they ask what he wants to play, he chooses Vivaldiโs Winter from "The Four Seasons"โone of the most difficult pieces there is.
And then he leaves everyone around him in awe. On the pan flute, Michel Tirabosco delivers an incredibly skillful performance, with remarkable breath control and emotion. Even though this was a planned flash-mob-style setup, the real talent of the musicians and the pure joy they bring still move people deeply.
A beautiful moment of music, connection, and limitless passion.

Good morning, Glasgow. For the next few days, the sun will rise directly behind the Squinty Bridge, making for some great photo opportunities - provided the skies remain relatively cloud free!
