"While an undeclared relative ‘truce’ appears at times to be established between the Sahelian juntas & Islamic Sahel Province, with JNIM perceived as the more immediate threat, ISSP is bound to become a major security threat regionally & internationally."

Particularly noteworthy for the attention it gives to the place and role of the Muslim community.
The institutional scaffolding around Muhoozi has matured alongside his personal profile. The Patriotic League of Uganda, rebranded in 2024 from an informal network of birthday rallies and fan clubs known as the “Muhoozi Project”, now runs village-level structures, community clean-up campaigns, and youth roadshows, and openly courts the same rural base the National Resistance Movement (NRM) has cultivated for four decades. It functions less as a political party than as an insurance policy: it absorbs potential rivals into patronage, builds a loyalty network running parallel to the NRM’s own, and softens the ground for a hereditary handover by presenting it as continuity rather than rupture.

UAE growing its role in West Africa
Today in Abu Dhabi I was joined by President Romuald Wadagni (@WadagniRomuald) to witness the exchange of a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between the UAE and Benin, an important step in strengthening cooperation between our two countries and expanding opportunities for trade, investment, and shared growth. The UAE remains focused on building global partnerships that promote prosperity and progress for all.

This is the single biggest story in #Sudan right now and it's not getting anywhere near enough attention
Sudan faces the Four Horsemen: War, Famine, Death and Conquest - in an apocalyptic spiral while authorities deny the issues & global response budgets shrink.

🚨Just as some #Sudan farmers try to plant after fighting moves on, El Nino is pummeling them with the worst drought in decades.
WFP projects more than 1mln people will enter severe hunger as a result, and is unlikely to be able to help them.

So here it is:
Our new report on eastern Congo's roadblocks, which is actually about how the M23 conflict intersects with a regional trade war over access to eastern Congo's market.
It's also about beer, and how Heineken exited Congo.
A thread w/key findings, maps & figures:
Is M23 a Congolese armed group or rather a thinly veiled proxy for a conventional interstate war? Nice rundown by @ryanmofarrell.
Meanwhile, M23/RDF is also sophisticated fiscal extraction machine, which goes way beyond minerals--full report, maps and data out later this week.

Nusseibeh was the UAE’s point person on Sudan, according to Justin Lynch, managing director of the Conflict Insights Group research organization. “Throughout this war, she assured other governments that the UAE was not backing the RSF, even as Washington and other capitals knew internally that it was,” he told the AP.
The U.N. secretary-general’s role is to protect civilians from horrors like el-Fasher, Lynch said. “Handing the job over to the diplomat who ran cover for it would be an insult to the survivors.”

"Although both patients passed through Entebbe airport on the same day, health officials have not established whether they met, used the same facilities or had any other contact."
Nigeria and Kenya Ebola patients may have crossed paths at Uganda airport, officials say bbc.in/3W3ldyP
The Nigeria patient reportedly briefly transited through Ug while asymptomatic. The Kenyan traveller reportedly was symptomatic long before crossing into Ug by road and leaving via Ebb airport.
My previous tweet was intended to raise questions, it didn't make any claims.

Replying to @reussae
Asymptomatic carriers of Ebola are not infectious, so yes it is possible.
