In Europe, taxation exemption on dividends distributed to holdings is very generous. A 5 percent stake gives a 95% exemption. In the US, it is only 50%. Aligning Europe to the US: alternative to the Zucman tax?@LevyAntoine @FrancoisGeerolf @XJaravel @augustinlandier @sc_cath

Great statement from Asna Tabassum, the student whose words and presence USC found to be ‘a threat to safety’

"I am not surprised by those who attempt to propagate hatred. I am surprised that my own university—my home for four years—has abandoned me." Every line of USC valedictorian Asna Tabassum's statement is brilliant, heartbreaking and infuriating cair.com/wp-content/uploads/…

I’m devastated to hear the news of Dr. Tatiana Melguizo’s unexpected death last Friday. I worked with Tatiana for several years and she was an incredible educational scholar with a commitment to equity. Dr. Melguizo will be deeply missed. indianhausa.com/tatiana-melg…

Exhausting but SO exhilarating! Pictured here, L-R: Fatou Thioune (USC), on the job market this year! With chief organiser @SaiEconING, co-organiser @arujshukla and camera shy (or our “unofficial” Happy Hour organiser) @MarcoLoFaso 🌻 #EconTwitter
We'd like to thank @USC_Econ for their generous support, and our organizing committee members for their hard working in reviewing and selecting the presentations! Special shout out to our organizers @taneja_saloni @arujshukla @MarcoLoFaso @SaiEconING !

📣📣📣 Our second WiE event involved hiking up the Fern Dell trail in Griffith Park, snacking on icy watermelon, and strengthening our little (but growing) community — one event at a time! – at Griffith Park, Los Angeles

Replying to @marc_vanguard

Economist Daniel Cohen has died. He introduced economics to generations of students at Ecole Normale Supérieure; quite a few became leaders in that field. He was one of the best teachers and science disseminators I experienced in any field—unforgettable. lemonde.fr/disparitions/arti…

A future Indiana Jones movie could be based on this QJE paper. My @USC_Econ colleague Thomas Chaney co-authored a very important paper.
Remember that time economists used a gravity model to find ancient lost cities from the Bronze Age? If you do or you don't, check out this thread🧵

Je suis sous le choc. Nous sommes tellement nombreux à avoir découvert l’économie grâce à lui. Daniel était curieux, brillant, ouvert à toutes les idées. Quelle tristesse. lemonde.fr/disparitions/arti…
