I GOT THE DOMAIN! I FINALLY GOT IT!!!!!!!!!!1 🥳🎉 Paint.NET is now at paint.net! Well, it will be just as soon as I push all the buttons to migrate content and set up redirects from getpaint.net etc. For now it's just a "hey go here" redirect page.

This is either the most relaxing or the most stressful button on your whole PC For me it's relaxing. I love declaring "tab bankruptcy" or "clearing off the desk" of all my work over the last several days

me: If I need it later then I'll find it again later others: Nooooo! What if I can't find it?! I'll need it!!! me: You won't others: I will though!!! Two completely irreconcilable psychological profiles ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I do think there's a lot of room for improving how browsers accommodate folks who don't close tabs. It's not really an effective organizational system, it's more of a memory system. Yes you have bookmarks/favorites, but that takes time and effort which are always in short supply.

I just posted what should be the final beta for Paint.NET v5.2. There's a bug fix, a new translation (Uzbek), a plugin SDK nuget package (finally!), and a new Nearest Neighbor (Antialiased) resampling mode for the Move Pixels tool forums.paint.net/topic/13461…

The Wine packages have some good progress to report as well. PNG and JPEG are now fully operational, including metadata. GPU effect plugins that use @SergioPedri 's ComputeSharp.D2D1 are working now. Stability and memory usage should also be greatly improved.

The final/stable release of 5.2 should be some time in early November. I'll be timing it for roughly the same time as Microsoft's official release of .NET 11.

DWriteCore is an official redistributable version of DirectWrite that Microsoft released which is intended for down-level (old Windows) and cross-platform (!) use. learn.microsoft.com/en-us/wi…

Although I think they scaled back the "cross-platform" goals, it's not like you can use it on Android. Maybe someday. Or maybe by "cross-platform" they meant Win10, Win11, and XBOX ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ In any case, it does seem to work on Wine!

I'll make sure that there's a new build of Paint.NET-on-Wine for every update of the standard Paint.NET package, but now I can more easily push out builds with targeted fixes and extra debugging information.

Someone even got it to run on a Mac 😯 This was not on my bingo card for this decade Obviously still lots of rough and sharp edges, but this is major progress seeing as how it hasn't been able to boot on Mac since 2014 or so

This is misinformation. The functionality is NOT being dropped, merely moved / repackaged. When this type of misinfo spreads, OTHER people start dogpiling me in a different way, labeling me a "coward" or "he deserved it", etc.
BlueSky Users Bully Paint.NET Dev Into Dropping AI Coded Feature Harass. Attack. Vilify. Bully. That is the tactic of the Leftist Activists of Open Source. Now they're using it to abuse and manipulate Al users.

Moving the D2D-for-WINE DLL out of the main Windows packages will probably be a net positive change anyway. It can then iterate and evolve on its own, I won't need to publish full builds of PDN for its sake.

I just published a new alpha for Paint.NET 5.2, build 9739. It has some new fixes, updated translations ... ... and EXTREMELY EXPERIMENTAL support for WINE/Linux. That's not a typo. Yes, 🍷. forums.paint.net/topic/13456…

So that's what it did: it banged its head against d2d1.dll and paintdotnet.exe for about 3 weeks until it was able to boot up PDN. In WINE. For real. Here's PDN on .NET 10 win-x64, in WINE 11.14-dev, on Ubuntu, in WSL2, on Windows 11. And yes it works on real Linux too.

Or rather, I should say that it "doesn't not work". It's still slow. Crashy. Buggy. Ugly. etc. But it's still light years ahead of where things were before. So try it out if you'd like. And stop asking me for Linux support dammit 😂🍷
