Bell Cyber data: only 39% of Canadians trust SMEs to guard against cyber threats, vs 64% for large firms. That gap hits sales, not just IT. Our vCISO work starts with a full admin login list. 🛡️

A project going live is not the same as value landing in the business. Before we approve any security spend, we ask one question: what changes for the business once this is done? If nobody can answer it, the budget is just a cost. 🛡️

CPCSC Level 1 opened to suppliers on April 1, 2026, and select DND contracts will require it starting this summer. In our client work, the Level 1 checklist is the quick part. Mapping where controlled data lives takes longer. 🛡️ Link in reply.

Only about 1 in 5 Canadian SMBs carries cyber insurance, according to the IBC 2025 SMB survey. A renewal questionnaire is a fast way to find out which controls exist only in someone's head. Write them down before the broker asks. 🛡️ Link below.

Plenty of boards ask whether they need a full time CISO. Often the answer is no, but they still need someone accountable for security decisions. A vCISO fills that gap without the full time price tag. 🛡️ @quuu_co More info in link.

Plenty of SME leadership teams can name their bank's fraud contact but not who makes the call if ransomware hits on a Friday afternoon. 🛡️ We run tabletop exercises for this reason. The gaps almost always show up in the room, not in the policy binder.

CPCSC Level 1 attestation sits on your Canada Buys profile and covers the whole organization, not a single bid. For SMEs chasing defence work, that profile is easy to forget until a solicitation asks for it. Check it before the next RFP lands. Link in reply.

Monthly OS patching at Canadian small businesses fell from 25.0% to 17.8% between 2021 and 2023. Exploiting vulnerabilities is now the top entry point for organizations under 1, 000 staff, at 26%. For boards, that's a patch cadence question, not an IT detail. 🛡️ Link below.

Convenience stores run on speed, but the POS, inventory system and lottery terminal often share the same network without anyone checking who has access. We see this regularly with SME clients. Fast checkout matters. Unmanaged access to payment systems matters more. 🛡️

Your business phone system is probably an access point nobody reviews. We ask SME owners one question: who has admin login to your phone portal, and is that access removed when someone leaves? Most can't answer on the spot. 🛡️

We've seen SME boards hire a full time security lead before the basic controls are in place. Senior judgment on a fixed schedule, with clear priorities for the board, often delivers more risk reduction for less money. 🛡️

Only 15.4% of small businesses with 10 to 49 employees had a written cyber security policy in 2023, per Statistics Canada. In our engagements, the first gap we check is who can approve a wire change, and it's rarely written down. 🛡️ Link in the reply.
