🚨 STOP BIG CHICKEN CHOKING OUR RIVERS Big Chicken: A Fast Food Conspiracy has landed on @NetflixUK , exposing the hidden costs of our obsession with cheap chicken. Here in the UK, our rivers are already paying the price. Every year, more than 1 BILLION chickens are reared in the UK, producing 3.5 million tonnes of manure. In many areas, there's already more waste than the land can safely absorb. When rain washes this pollution into rivers, it fuels toxic algal blooms, kills wildlife and damages precious habitats. ✍️ TAKE ACTION. Tell the Government to ditch its Poultry Growth Plan and support farming that protects our rivers instead of polluting them. SIGN THE PETITION: bit.ly/4w9IRGm

What would public ownership of water companies actually mean? The Government’s pledge to remove historic restrictions on public ownership is welcome. But changing the rules is only the beginning. In our latest blog, we explore what the proposed repeal means, why Special Administration matters and what needs to happen next. 👉riveractionuk.com/news/publi…

ANOTHER YEAR, ANOTHER RECORD LOW 💩 In 2025, almost every water company in England was ranked as performing poorly. Meanwhile, sewage continued to flow into our rivers, and promised improvements failed to materialise. A system that rewards shareholders and creditors is failing our rivers, wildlife and bill payers. The time for half-measures is over. Thames Water must go into Special Administration now. This would protect the public, keep essential services running and create an opportunity to reset the industry properly. We need the Government to end the failed privatisation experiment, explore alternatives including public ownership, and give regulators the power to make polluters pay - not the public. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cw5y…

But the next chapter doesn’t have to be more of the same. The Government can use Special Administration to rebuild the company around serving customers and protecting our rivers - not private financial interests. 👉 Email the Prime Minister. Demand a better future for Thames Water. TAKE ACTION: riveractionuk.com/email-andy…

🚨 WATER COMPANY PERFORMANCE: WORST YEAR ON RECORD England’s water companies are failing our rivers - and today’s Environment Agency report lays bare the scale of the crisis. 📉 Four companies have received the lowest possible performance rating. Yorkshire Water, Southern Water and South West Water have joined Thames Water at just 1 star out of 4. All but one company received just 1 or 2 stars. 💩 74 serious pollution incidents. That’s no real improvement from 2024. Thames Water was responsible for more than a third of these incidents, and four companies - Thames, Yorkshire, Southern and Anglian Water - accounted for 82% of all Category 1 and 2 incidents. ⚠️ 2,666 pollution incidents in total, with almost no improvement on the year before. ⚠️Category 1 & 2 incidents have increased by 30% since 2016, from 57 to 74. These figures are yet another damning indictment of England’s privatised water industry. Our rivers are paying the price while weak enforcement allows polluters to escape meaningful accountability. Our rivers can’t afford another year of failure. We need effective enforcement, polluters held accountable, and urgent action to stop pollution at source. riveractionuk.com/news/water…

🇺🇸 Fast-food giants. UK rivers. One BIG pollution problem. As American fast-food giants expand across the UK, demand for cheap chicken is soaring. But behind the boom lies a growing environmental crisis. The UK’s poultry industry already produces 3.5 million tonnes of chicken waste every year. Excess nutrients can wash into our rivers, fuel algal blooms and threaten wildlife. And now, with the Government backing the development of an industry-led Poultry Growth Plan, pressure to expand production is growing - while the pollution problem remains unresolved. More chickens. More waste. More pollution. Our rivers cannot afford the consequences... 🧵 riveractionuk.com/news/big-a…

🚨 ENGLAND'S RESERVOIRS COULD RUN DRY BEFORE CHRISTMAS. A major investigation by @thetimes has uncovered secret Government warnings of a potential 'Day Zero' water crisis, with some reservoirs at risk of running completely dry. THIS IS A FRESHWATER EMERGENCY. Drought, pollution, leaking pipes and years of underinvestment are putting our rivers, water supplies and future at risk. But this crisis is solvable. With the right leadership and investment, we can turn things around. The Government must declare a national freshwater emergency and deliver a funded plan to secure our water future. Because if we don't act now, the UK will run dry. thetimes.com/article/7812e10…

Thames Water is failing its customers and our rivers. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Special Administration offers a way out of this crisis, a chance to put people and nature before creditors. Tell the PM to act now 👇 riveractionuk.com/email-andy…
Greens have a plan for failing water companies like Thames Water. Special administration. Public ownership. Zero compensation for shareholders. When will Labour end the rip off?

A glimpse of our Monday. We travelled from the Wye Valley to Westminster to lobby our MPs and ask them to challenge the government’s proposed Poultry Growth Strategy. This plan is being dreamed up (nightmared up 🧟‍♂️) by Defra and the Big Chicken lobby without community engagement

🚨 THAMES WATER: ENOUGH TALK. TIME FOR ACTION. Prime Minister Andy Burnham has reportedly ordered officials to rethink plans for rescuing Thames Water. Good. But Thames Water doesn't need another bailout for wealthy investors. It needs a fresh start through Special Administration. The Government MUST put people and rivers before private profits. It's time to end the cycle of debt, pollution and failure. EMAIL THE PRIME MINISTER. Tell the Government: Don't prop up a system that has already failed. Use Special Administration to secure a better future for Thames Water. 🔗 Take action now: riveractionuk.com/email-andy… #ThamesWater #SpecialAdministration #RescueOurRivers

🚨 £5 BILLION SPENT. BUT IS THE THAMES ANY CLEANER? Despite London's £5bn Thames Tideway Tunnel being built to tackle sewage pollution, independent testing by @ReachBoat has found no clear improvement in E. coli levels. Led by Chief Executive Adam Freeman-Pask, the club has been testing the Thames weekly, with shocking results: 💩 62.5% of water samples taken since February 2025 exceeded E. coli levels considered a human health risk. 👏 Huge thanks to Adam and his team for their vital work exposing the reality of pollution in the Thames. ✊ TAKE ACTION: Over 5,000 people have already emailed the Prime Minister demanding Special Administration for Thames Water. 👉 Add your voice. 🚨 Water companies have made at least £1.4 BILLION from industrial wastewater in six years. Our investigation with @Watershed_i reveals: 💰 Water companies reported £336 million in trade-effluent revenue in 2025/26 alone, with reported revenues almost doubling since 2020/21. 🏭 607.6 billion litres of industrial wastewater was consented to enter sewage treatment works last year. That’s enough to fill around 242,000 Olympic swimming pools! This wastewater can contain substances including PFAS, cyanide, mercury and pharmaceuticals. These chemicals enter our waterways and contaminate sewage sludge, which is spread on our land and used to grow our food. Yet there is no independent regulator overseeing individual trade-effluent consents and no central national register. 🔎 Read our full investigation and uncover the hidden industrial wastewater trade: 👇 riveractionuk.com/news/water…

✅ Andy Burnham is right: the public deserve more control over the water companies we all depend on. But a ten-year transition cannot mean ten more years of delay. Thames Water is the immediate test. Government already has powers to act on Thames Water and put it into Special Administration But Special Administration isn't the end of the story - it paves the way for a better one. 📩 Email Andy Burnham today and tell him: put Thames Water into Special Administration without delay 👉 riveractionuk.com/email-andy…
