This crook knows exactly why a billionaire pays the same as a man earning $184,500. He knows because he has voted for the cap and every patch on it for 35 years.
Look at what the money buys. Pay the maximum for forty years and you collect about $4,200 a month at full retirement age. That is the ceiling, no matter how much was taken, because you own none of it. There is no account with your name on it, and Congress may change the terms whenever it likes.
So call the arrangement by its name. It is a Ponzi scheme. Today's workers pay today's recipients. Nothing is invested. The trust fund holds Treasury IOUs, which means the government owes itself, and the only way to redeem one is to tax you a second time. Like every Ponzi, it survives on new entrants, and the birth rate stopped supplying them decades ago. Bernie has known this the whole time.
Now the arithmetic he steps around. The 2026 Trustees Report puts the retirement fund's depletion in late 2032, six years from now, with an automatic 22 percent cut to every check. The federal debt crossed $40 trillion in August.
Which is why the billionaires are suddenly needed in the pot. The scheme requires fresh money to pay the last round, and he has run out of workers to take it from.
Then run his own numbers. Every billionaire in America, all 989 of them, holds about $8.4 trillion. Seize every dollar and you have covered a fifth of the debt, nothing of the deficit after that, and none of what is already owed to people who paid in. The fund still dies.
And you would not be seizing dollars. That wealth is shares in Apple, Nvidia, Amazon, Berkshire, the same companies inside every 401(k) and pension in the country. Liquidate it and you crater the retirement savings of the people he claims to be rescuing, to buy a few years of a scheme that still collapses.
Billionaires pay the same amount into Social Security as someone making $184,500.
If we ended that absurdity & applied the payroll tax to all income above $250,000, Social Security would be solvent for 75 years & benefits would be expanded by $2,400.
Let’s do it.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The Social Security Administration (SSA) has modeled uncapping the payroll tax with no benefit changes and found it would return the program to annual surpluses for just three years, through 2029, at which point annual deficits would resume.

Right on cue, Ro Khanna is ready to cash in, and the tell is his own example. He wants an agency to regulate AI the way we regulate nuclear power. We built that agency, and after Three Mile Island, which killed nobody, licensing froze American reactor construction for thirty years while coal smoke killed tens of thousands a year. That is what statism does. It cannot build anything, it can only forbid, and every year of forbidding is paid for in lives nobody counts, cheap power never generated, illnesses never traced back to the agency that caused them.
And read what Coxon actually said. He described labs losing control of test systems and asked the industry to slow down. He did not ask for a cabinet department. Khanna took a technical warning about corporate incentives and converted it into a permanent licensing authority in Washington, as though the incentives of politicians were the cure for the incentives of engineers.
Here is what nobody is saying out loud. Once a federal body approves which models may exist, you will never again trust an answer one gives you. Ask it about the Fed, about a bill's cost, about which policies produced which outcomes, and you will not know whether you have evidence or the approved position. The same government that shaped what history gets taught would get a review board for the tool people use to check history.
This is the member who accused a private citizen of sentencing 4.5 million children to death off a projection, then demanded subpoenas. Fraud and sabotage are already illegal. Enforce that, and leave the men building the future alone.
Speaker Mike Johnson has a moral and practical duty to keep Congress in session until we have taken meaningful action to regulate AI. When members of the House and Senate return to Washington next week, they should fully investigate the threat — and they should not leave DC until Congress votes to establish a federal agency to oversee AI in the same way that we do nuclear power and airplanes.
When OpenAI and Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon says these artificial intelligence companies are “gambling with our lives,”
that’s not hyperbole. That’s a call for action. Speaker Johnson must not ignore it.

Not one person said stop, what are you doing, that’s Brad Lander. He’s been standing with us. He helped us to oust Goldman. Mamdani & Sanders endorsed him, nothing. As some of us have been trying to tell yall the past couple years, zionist is coded language, a dog whistle for Jew or ally to Jews and this movement/organization has a major institutional racism problem. This video reminded me of “good ppl on both sides”
"We don't want no Zionists here"
Democratic Congressional candidate Brad Lander, who is Jewish, is cursed at and thrown out of a protest in NYC.
Lander went along with extreme rhetoric against Israel and AIPAC during the primary to win votes, something he admitted made him "queasy" because it played into antisemitism.
Maybe the fact that he's being harassed anyway is a sign that next time, he should just stick to campaigning on his actual views.
Perfectly stated.
She’s an American citizen so I disagree with the deportation thing. But I don’t know why anyone would want their kid to be taught by this woman, why U Chicago employs her, or why she wants to stay in a country she so clearly detests (at least performatively).
I think the most annoying thing about these people — not the worst thing in a moral/intellectual sense, just the most annoying thing — is how cliched and boring they are to anyone who knows anything about this stuff. These are not edgy, new, exciting positions. This crap was in the streets and sitting in crumbled pamphlets in coffee houses in the 1960s, 1930s, heck in the 1890s. It’s just weak-minded radical cosplay for people who think incanting stale ideas makes you transgressive and cool if your audience already agrees with you or if they’re even more ignorant than you. She’s just an academic version of Hasan Piker and no more impressive.

In two years, we'll wonder why Amazon delivery prices are up and service level is down and now only middle class and above can afford it.
Same thing happening to Uber in NYC.
Harming the poorest NY'ers who benefit from Amazon's incredible service.
If it looks like an Amazon delivery and drives like an Amazon delivery, then it's an Amazon delivery, right? Not according to Amazon.
Big companies like Amazon have built a vast network of subcontractors who deliver their packages while shielding them from accountability.
It leaves our workers unprotected and our streets less safe. It's time for a change.
I'm proud to support the Delivery Protection Act to crack down on exploitative subcontracting and build an economy that works for everyone.

This new tactic of AOC and her allies -- to giggle away their past "crazy" ideas -- should not be tolerated.
"Woke" wasn't just some harmless, zany moment. It was a sinister movement that destroyed careers and reputations for the smallest thought crimes. It needs a reckoning.

The villain in this story is Senator Warren and people like her who refuse to think past their applause line.
She admits it herself. There are not enough homes. Then she skips the only question that matters. Why? Zoning that bans apartments, permits that take years, rent controls that punish building. Every one a government policy she supports. The shortage is her movement's own construction project.
And the greed theory fails arithmetic. If landlords raise rents just because they can, why couldn't they a decade ago? Greed is a constant. Supply is the variable.
The landlord provides the home, carries the mortgage, fixes the refrigerator. Remove him and her constituent is not liberated. She is homeless.

This is harebrained. NYC's government-owned grocery stores won't be means tested, so millionaires will be able to get food welfare. Meanwhile, there's nothing stopping people from buying the discounted food & reselling it at a markup. A ridiculous solution in search of a problem.

You chose 1973 as your baseline. Let me tell you what happened in 1973.
The dollar fully floated after Nixon severed gold. The first Pell Grants were awarded. The HMO Act was signed. Your chart does not start before the crisis, Bernie. It starts at the scene of the crime.
Healthcare up 35x because Medicare, CON laws, and the AMA cartel run medicine.
Homes up 13x because zoning makes building illegal and the Fed prints.
Rent up 15x because price controls and zoning strangle supply.
Tuition up 23x because federal loans gave colleges a blank check.
General prices rose 7x in that span. Everything government controls rose 13x to 35x. Everything it leaves alone got cheaper.
You are not the prosecutor of this case. You are the defendant.

The thing that pisses me off about Fauci is that over a dozen scientists told him that the virus was very likely man-made, only two said it might have come from nature. He lied about the scientists consensus and said they concluded it was natural. That makes scientists look bad.

One of the main guilty acts of Fauci is not the claim that he got the COVID origin wrong at first. It's that he and his Lancet crew fabricated a certainty about COVID's origins they plainly did not possess -- due to entirely self-interested reasons (namely, their careers and reputations would be endangered if COVID had been caused by gain-of-function and other Wuhan research they funded and participated it).
They then weaponized that fake, deceitful certainty to label anyone who suggested a lab leak as a racist (which never made sense, since the "wet market" theory was always the more racist one), and then also used that non-existent certainty to bully and coerce media outlets and Big Tech to aggressively censor anyone questioning or dissenting from their proclamation.
The complete shutdown of debate, discussion and dissent over some of the this century's most consequential policies was one of the main crimes. That they did this not out of good faith error but crass self-advancement and self-protection made it all the worse.
