Jojo's Steel Ball Run: Episode 8 SB - Fuminori Kizaki ED - Takahiro Kaneko I have been given one of the best episodes in SBR, and we have a special case here involving an even more special artist working on it. Minoru Murao is handling AD for this episode alongside Hiroaki Imaki, and the staff lineup is easily one of the healthiest I've seen. The actual Key Animators working on this episode also handled their own 2nd Key Animation work, giving Murao a lot more freedom to utilise his strongest skills as an Animation Director. Pork Pie Kid's fight wasn't really one of my favourites, but this episode, with Kizaki on Storyboards and Kaneko handling Episode Direction, turned it into an all-timer. This is largely thanks to Murao's corrections, which actually bring the character designs much closer to their later iterations in the Steel Ball Run manga. One of the closest adaptations of Araki's artwork, if I do say so myself. There are some interesting ideas throughout, including unique shots and even the moment Pork Pie Kid's head gets splattered, with his blood covering the screen. Once again, such a unique touch to the episode. Kaneko has worked on countless shows, both Shounen and otherwise, and he's incredibly skilled at applying his own touches to an episode. Still, the biggest highlight will always be Murao's drawings, and I dare say this is some of the best AD work of the year. What a brilliant episode. I'd rank this much higher among the episodes I've genuinely enjoyed. RATING: 9/10 #jojo #ジョジョ
