Our ⚪️🔴⚪️ flags were displayed alongside Estonia’s 🇪🇪 at @MFAestonia today, where I met Foreign Minister @Tsahkna. Thank you for this welcome and for standing firmly with Belarusians. We discussed how Estonia, the EU and the US can coordinate efforts to free all political prisoners. Every release matters. We must also end the repression that keeps sending innocent people to prison. I thanked Estonia for contributing to the International Humanitarian Fund, helping people affected by repression and their families. I raised residence permits, documents and visas for Belarusians, including those in third countries who cannot safely return home. People persecuted by Lukashenka need protection and a chance to rebuild their lives. We also discussed continued support for Ukraine and opportunities for Belarus’s democratic forces to contribute to the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Tallinn next year. A democratic Belarus can become a partner in rebuilding Ukraine. Our cooperation at the UN, OSCE and EU remains essential to defending Belarus’s independence and keeping our country on the international agenda. We discussed joint initiatives, including Belarus Days in Brussels, and Estonia’s support for our civil society and Representation in Tallinn. Sanctions pressure must continue, and those responsible for repression must face justice. We must work for every prisoner’s freedom while demanding lasting change. Belarus must never become a bargaining chip in negotiations over Russia’s war. Any future security arrangements must protect our independence and prevent Russia from using our territory for aggression. Thank you, Margus, for your personal commitment to a free Belarus. Our freedom and the security of Ukraine, Estonia and all of Europe are inseparable.

What happens in Belarus affects the security of the whole of Europe. Freeing political prisoners and ending repression remain urgent. But we must also keep working to free the entire country from dictatorship. #WSF2026

It was a pleasure to meet 🇪🇺 High Representative @kajakallas in New York on the sidelines of #UNGA81. I thanked her and the EU for their principled and consistent position, and welcomed the unity among EU countries on Belarus. Europe has a direct interest in a free, democratic and predictable Belarus. It is very important to distinguish Belarusians from the regime, and Belarus from Russia. When isolating the regime, it is important not to isolate Belarusians. And I am glad that this is well understood in the EU.
