I didn’t spot the whale during #HangklipMarathon but I did spot a few Whalers. One of the easiest to spot is Charl Marais - fellow beer lover & runner of multiple marathons. On that note, can confirm that the ‘marathon a weekend’ diet is best way to maintain a magnificent dadbod!
EXCLUSIVE: ASA Launches new Leon Bannau compliant cap for Limpopo races.
The cap will cost R299.90 which is exactly the same price as a 21-Piece Bucket from KFC.
What does FYL stand for? You should be able to work it out but here’s the full story: runningmann.co.za/2026/10/11…
This road name looks like it’s missing a noun. I know better than to go there but for two marks complete the sentence a “Broad with…”.

Always great to see running legend (& fellow TOM board member) Wietse vd Westhuizen on the road. Wietse is tackling Comrades #48 & Oceans #37 in 2027. We both serve on TOM disciplinary comm & glad to report that there was nothing to report from #HangklipMarathon on that score! 😊

A Limpopo technical official Leon Bannau has taken it upon himself to DQ runners for
wearing Comrades and other caps in the 40 degree Limpopo sun. Bannau is applying a made-up rule which does not exist. Bannau is the only muppet applying this imaginary rule. Original article is here: runningmann.co.za/2026/10/11…
I bumped into event director Japie Swanepoel on his motorbike while walking to the start of the #HangklipMarathon. He told me to take the coastal path. Glad I did – you can’t beat this view.

When you come from Belville, red carpet affairs are few and far between. Dirk Lubbe jumped at the opportunity and strutted his stuff like a supermodel.
Belville AC had a big contingent at the #HangklipMarathon. Everyone tells you “Come to Belville and CY” but it you run in
(vagabond) Chenin Blanc, Rosa Rabbedoe (tomboy / wild, mischievous girl) Rosé, Sarel Seemonster (sea monster) Sauvignon Blanc, Zak Skobbejak (scoundrel) Shiraz, Kaptein Karnuffel (rough-and-tumble fellow) Cabernet Sauvignon and Ben Bullebak (big brute) Merlot. The latter of which
is recommended to go with “rugby, braai en min slaai.”
Bringing it back to Bellville and piracy, if Dirk was given a pirate name, I have no doubt it would be “Land” Lubbe.

After spending too much time at the last water table, I had to run hard over the final 2km to make my 4h36 goal time. However, the brakes were applied and I came to a screeching halt on spotting this impromptu shooter table.
There was a wide arsenal on offer so I asked for a
recommendation. A “Fireball” was recommended and accepted, resulting in a deep-seated cinnamon burning in my belly for the rest of the race.
However, this is much more pleasant than the fireballs one experiences after cutting chillies, not washing one’s hands and then going for a
wee. Melodramatic, romantic novelists know nothing about what a true burning in the loins feels like…

Game Reserve certainly lives up to its name: Four kilometres of strenuous climbing on an unforgiving gravel track that is only accessible to 4×4 vehicles (and hardy runners). The view over Komani from the top is truly spectacular and well worth the calories burnt to get there.
The full race report is here: Bonkolo Marathon (Warming up for a World Cup win): runningmann.co.za/2020/05/02…
The next edition is on 7 November and you can enter here: entrytickets.net/bonkolomara…

Looking ahead to November marathons – my “must do” marathon in the Eastern Cape is the little known Bonkolo Marathon in Komani (formerly Queenstown).
The marathon comprises two long out-and-back sections with a few loops thrown into the middle portion of the race, over a course
