The joy of transcribing interviews is reliving great conversations with great people. The misery of transcribing is, well, transcribing.

I’ve been waiting for a “normal” week to share a breakdown of what it actually costs to operate Can’s Can Ministries.
But I’ve come to realize something: There really is no such thing as a normal week at Can’s Can.
Our expenses fluctuate based on the needs of our community. Some weeks are busier than others, and unexpected needs arise regularly. However, our core programs remain relatively consistent, and I wanted to give everyone a transparent look at what it takes to keep them running.
CAN’S CAN MINISTRIES
Two-Week Financial Breakdown | October 11–25
EXPENSES
Resource Center Restocking — $1,825
During this period, 50 teachers visited our Resource Center to obtain supplies for their classrooms. These expenses largely reflect replenishing items distributed the previous week. Keeping our shelves stocked and resources available is an ongoing investment.
Boo Bags — $1,238
Through our annual Boo Bags program, 160 local students received or will receive Halloween treat bags. This program allows us to bring a little extra happiness to children who might otherwise miss out on traditional Halloween activities.
Beds — $1,200
Our bed program was particularly busy! We provided eight beds to local children, helping ensure they have a comfortable place to sleep.
Shoes & Clothing — $150
This figure is actually lower than the true cost of the assistance provided, as much of the clothing distributed during this period had been purchased previously.
Meals — $65
This number may seem surprisingly low, but we are incredibly fortunate. Our Meal CEOs, Gary and Mary, frequently donate ingredients themselves, and several generous individuals regularly provide desserts. Their contributions help us keep this program operating at a fraction of its actual cost.
TOTAL EXPENSES: $4,478
INCOME
Monthly / Regular Donors — $50
Card Shop Sales — $117
TOTAL INCOME: $167
Difference Between Expenses and Income: $4,311
So, why share these numbers?
Not to complain. Not to discourage anyone. And certainly not to suggest that the work isn't worth doing.
Quite the opposite.
I want people to understand what goes into operating Can’s Can and the financial realities behind the programs our community has come to depend on.
While these numbers will rise and fall throughout the year, one thing remains constant: Our business model requires us to continually find the funding necessary to meet the needs of our community.
We do not have corporate financial backing. We have never received government grants or subsidies. We rely on fundraising, product sales, individual generosity, and a tremendous amount of determination to keep moving forward.
And somehow, we continue to make it work.
Behind every dollar spent is a teacher receiving classroom supplies, a child getting a bed, a family receiving clothing, or someone enjoying a meal.
These aren't just expenses on a spreadsheet. They're people. They're needs. And they're the reason Can’s Can exists.
I hope sharing these numbers provides a little more insight into both the challenges we face and the impact we continue to make.
To everyone who purchases our products, donates, volunteers, or simply helps spread the word: Thank you. You are helping make all of this possible.
And tomorrow, we'll get up and do it all over again.

Just a reminder that Can’s Can Ministries will once again be spreading a little Christmas cheer through our Christmas Wish Lists program!
This year, we will be serving at least the residents of Heritage Woods and foster children throughout our area.
Last year, thanks to the generosity of our incredible supporters, we were able to make Christmas a little brighter for more than people than we ever have. We anticipate serving more again this year.
Over the next week or so, we’ll be meeting with facilities and social workers as we begin distributing and collecting wish lists.
If you’d like to help make someone's Christmas a little more special, we would love to have you involved! We'll be sharing more information soon about how you can participate and help fulfill a Christmas wish.
Every wish list represents a person who deserves to feel remembered, valued, and loved this holiday season.
Stay tuned for more information, and thank you for helping us make the season brighter for those in our community!

This is a social media Hail Mary…
We thought we) had an athlete scheduled for an event on Friday.
We went through the process of scheduling over a month ago. But, now after speaking with the athlete the gentleman who schedules the appearances never spoke with him and is now unavailable for that date.
We are trying our best to not have a few hundred kids disappointed this week. Looking for any kinds of suggestions or leads.

if you missed this big Cooper Flagg auto and suddenly have an extra $7 mil laying around, maybe buy the best card i've ever pulled?
it's on Fanatics @Collect: fanaticscollect.com/buy-now/…
BREAKING: The Cooper Flagg NBA Debut Patch autograph card has officially sold in our auction for $8,040,000.
This sets the record for the most expensive Cooper Flagg card of all time, surpassing the previous record of $366,000.
The historic sale makes it the third-most expensive NBA card ever and sixth-most expensive trading card in history.

Due to the overwhelmingly positive response to the free autograph signings we offered at SI Sports Fest, we’re looking at making this a regular part of our events!
We already have tentative dates for our 2027 shows, and we’d love to bring in even more athletes for free autograph opportunities for kids.
If you have connections with former or current athletes who might be interested, we’d love to hear from you! We are more than happy to discuss and pay standard appearance rates and fees.
If you have a contact or connection, please reach out. We’d love to start building an even bigger lineup for 2027.

While it can sometimes be a struggle to document everything we do, our texts are now filling up daily with messages like this.
Every #TheHobby purchase you make from us, every Stadium Rip pack, and every donation helps make moments like this possible. Every dollar goes back into our community and toward causes that make a real difference.
Thank you for continuing to support what we do.

Each year around Halloween, we put together custom Boo Bags for foster kids and students with special needs. Due to home placements, physical limitations, or other circumstances, these kiddos may not have the opportunity to participate in traditional trick-or-treating.
So, we like to make Halloween a little extra special for them.
If anyone in #thehobby would like to help us bring the Boo Bags back this year, we’d truly appreciate it! Every bit of support helps us put a smile on a kiddo’s face and make sure they don’t miss out on a little Halloween fun.
