Does your employer match charitable gifts? Some portals still show our former name, Mill Creek Police Foundation. Search EIN 82-2956637 and designate Mercer Island Chapter so the gift and match count here. backmipd.org/faq#employer-gi…
Medicare is funded by a tax on labor. 1.45% from the worker, 1.45% from the employer, on every dollar of wages. No cap since 1994. The deal: you work, you pay in, and for most people coverage starts at 65.
But an Ai/Si agent never turns 65. It never files a claim. It pays into a benefit it cannot receive. That's not a tax on a worker anymore. It's a tax on the hour, cut loose from the person it was built to protect.
Tomorrow night our streets will be full of trick-or-treaters. Drivers, please slow down and watch for kids crossing mid-block. Parents, glow sticks and flashlights help little ones be seen. Happy Halloween, Mercer Island! 🎃
Everyone's debating whether to tax AI. That's the wrong frame. Government won't swap payroll tax for a token tax. It will do what it has always done: redefine who counts as a worker. An Ai/Si agent hour becomes a labor hour.
I've run a city budget and a national state and local tax firm. Governments don't give up a revenue base. They redefine it. The question is whether we write that definition carefully or in a crisis.
Wondering how to support Mercer Island police beyond the City budget? The @mercergov Support MIPD page explains it: gifts through our chapter fund equipment, training, wellness and community programs. mercerisland.gov/police/page…
Tomorrow, Saturday Oct 24, is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, 10 AM to 2 PM. It's a free, anonymous way to clear out unused or expired medications. Find a collection site near you: dea.gov/takebackday
Sunday's Coffee with a Cop at the South End Starbucks was the best kind of morning: neighbors, coffee and a couple of junior officers in full uniform. Thank you to @MercerIslandPD for making time for our community. backmipd.org
After years of serving Mercer Island, I'm starting a new chapter. I'm now Citizen Delegate for the Mercer Island Chapter of the North Sound Police Foundation, helping neighbors support @MercerIslandPD with equipment, training and officer wellness. backmipd.org

Happy National Coffee Day, Mercer Island.
MIPD is now a member agency of the North Sound Police Foundation, so we can support our officers directly: wellness, training and gear the City budget doesn't reach.
