🔍 Hiring committees tend to favour candidates whose research resembles their own.
🎓 This “similarity bias” shapes who gets tenure-track jobs.
🚧 Women, having less research overlap with male-dominated committees, face extra barriers.

With @matteo_sartori_ and @MarcoGPalladin1 we study fixed-term contracts in Italy. They are valuable for firms that operate under high uncertainty. At the same time, these firms are, on average, less productive. A well-known trade-off—we make it visible in the data 1/2

• remote work
• labor market flexstability
• digital work platforms
• local communities
• targeted welfare
Research by @I_Am_NickBloom and recent work by @salva_lat suggests that remote work can positively affect fertility and reduce the motherhood/child penalty.
Salvatore Lattanzio retweeted
Economists understand the first major decline in fertility in advanced economies, from 6 or 7 children per woman throughout most of human history to about 1.8, that occurred between the early 1800s and roughly 1970, well before smartphones.
