A client told me his logo redesign "should only take five minutes," then asked for a discount because of it. He said it twice on the call. The second time, he laughed. So I sent him a quote that afternoon. "Five-minute logo: 40 dollars. Knowing which five minutes: 960 dollars. Total: 1,000." He phoned within the hour, and he was not laughing. He said... "This is outrageous." I said, "You told me it would take five minutes." He said, "Five minutes of work." I said, "Then you're paying for the eleven years it took me to make it five." He went quiet for a long time. Then he said he'd find someone cheaper. I said, "Of course," and wished him luck.
