The Commerce Secretary suggests we can finance a $7 trillion federal budget without any American paying any taxes.
This would require a universal 220% tariff that inexplicably does not reduce imports at all, and is somehow entirely paid by foreigners. Pure economic illiteracy.
Lutnick: Tariffs are going to drive America better.. Wouldn't it be amazing to stop paying taxes to the internal revenue service and have the external revenue service of make America great again replace our taxes? That is the goal of Donald Trump,
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The federal government collects $5.1 trillion in income taxes.
Total imported goods and services without tariffs is $4.1 trillion.
It's fundamentally impossible to collect $5.1 trillion dollars in taxes on $4.1 trillion of pre-tariff trade.

The bottom line is this isn't actually true, and the only argument I can think of that they'd try to make--that the grants pause is saving money--is weak, akin to saying I cut my household spending because I missed my rent payment.
JUST IN: Elon Musk and Trump's DOGE Team Announce Unprecedented $1 Trillion Deficit Cut
Elon Musk, leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), announced that under President Trump's administration, they've already managed to slash the U.S. national deficit by an astonishing $1 trillion in just two weeks.
This bold claim was made public through Musk's tweet, promising to cut the deficit in half by the end of the fiscal year.
The strategy involves significant reductions in government spending, which Musk and his team have been aggressively implementing.
Previously, under President Joe Biden, the deficit had ballooned to $1.8 trillion in 2024, setting a stark contrast to the current achievements.

Unfortunate the Biden administration made these arguments.
But Yellen said “I don’t believe that American consumers will see any MEANINGFUL increase in the prices that they face”.
The Biden tariffs were on $18b of imports and the Trump ones are on $1.4 trillion.
Replying to @WhiteHouse
The Fake News is already lying about the impact of tariffs.
A 2024 study on the effects of President Trump’s tariffs during his first administration found that they “strengthened the U.S. economy” and “led to significant reshoring” in industries like manufacturing and steel production.
Even former Biden Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen affirmed last year that tariffs do not harm consumers. 5/5

The people of Lebanon are facing an increasingly dire humanitarian situation. I am concerned about the security and well-being of civilians suffering in Lebanon and will continue working to help meet the needs of all civilians there.
To that end, the United States will provide nearly $157 million in additional assistance to the people of Lebanon for essential needs such as food, shelter, water, protection, and sanitation to help those who have been displaced by the recent conflict. This additional support brings total U.S. assistance to Lebanon over the last year to over $385 million.

The Israeli gov't knowingly starved Palestinian civilians, USA gov't knew they were doing it, the Biden administration deliberately covered up this fact & lied about it. This is as big a scandal as imaginable. Yet it is likely to receive little traction in the mainstream media.
Leaked docs: While Gaza starved, USAID and State's refugees bureau came to a legally explosive conclusion — Israel had deliberately prevented food & medicine from getting in
But Blinken told congress the exact opposite, so the arms could keep flowing. propublica.org/article/gaza-…

Notice that even the subtitles are in English, not Arabic. This is propaganda directed at the west, not the Lebanese.

These are controlled demolitions of entire residential neighborhoods in Gaza. No active combat to be seen, no military justification whatsoever. Israel is acting on its threat to wipe Gaza off the map to make sure Palestinians cannot return. Ethnic cleansing clear as day.
