Let me be clear about some distortions. Neither I nor National Action Network (NAN) endorsed candidates during our Voter Brigade Tour. We challenged all candidates to address critical voting rights issues, including the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.
Rev. Charles Williams met with both Republican and Democratic candidates in Michigan to discuss these issues. El-Sayed has appeared on my television show twice and has strongly supported a comprehensive civil and voting rights agenda. The Republican candidate also met with us but did not make those same commitments.
Rev. Williams has made it clear that he is a Democrat and voted for El-Sayed! I found El-Sayed to be firmly committed to the issues that we at NAN have consistently fought for. His opponent has not demonstrated that same commitment!
We also strongly oppose anti-Muslim bias, just as we oppose anti-Black racism, discrimination against women, anti-gay prejudice, and attacks on women’s rights, all of which are reflected in the rhetoric and policies that MAGA candidates continue to promote.
As an organization, our position has not changed. We support those who support a strong civil rights agenda. We are willing to meet with candidates from all parties and hear them out, but our principles and commitments remain clear.
Don’t get it twisted!!

I’m having a hard time with chemotherapy’s side effects. Tonight’s coughing fit triggered a panic attack. This disease is relentless, and it’s my enemy. As I fight, my weapon of choice is the love that surrounds me, past and present. Love -m

I’m currently dealing with the side effects of a white blood cell injection. It stimulates my bone marrow & is painful. My job is to get through the pain. Today, my close friend Myron cleaned up my profile picture. Things like this help me get through the hardest rounds. -m

I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of my friend, the legendary former Michigan State Track & Field head coach Jim Bibbs.
Coach Bibbs was a giant in the state of Michigan and a true trailblazer. As the first Black head coach in MSU history and the first Black head coach in the Big Ten, he opened doors that so many have walked through since. But anyone who knew him will tell you his greatest impact wasn’t measured in wins or records. It was in the lives he touched. He was a mentor, a role model, and someone who genuinely cared about the people around him, on and off the track and throughout the entire Lansing community.
Cookie and I will be praying for his family during this difficult time 🙏🏾

I finished my 4th chemo treatment. None are easy. Fortunately, I’m surrounded by friends & family who check in & lift my spirits. On one occasion, Chuck D checked in & said, “You are Black Steel,” a reference to his song, Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos. I needed that & now. -m

Was an honor to serve as MC at the Hannan Center’s 70 over Seventy awards, honoring our community’s top leaders over 70 years old. All of the awardees show us that a new chapter of life starts at 70. Was really special to award my friend, Huel Perkins with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to the people of Greater Detroit.
•Detroit photographer Montez Miller began her career after a chance social media interaction with Aretha Franklin.
•Franklin hired Miller to handle her social media, prompting Miller to buy her first professional camera.
•Miller previously worked in television as a producer for BET's "Video Soul" with Donnie Simpson.
•She is now a prominent photographer in Detroit, capturing city life, sports, and high-profile events.
Detroit gives a photographer plenty to look at. The harder trick is deciding what deserves a second look.
For Montez Miller, photography can begin in that fraction of a second, when an ordinary face, gesture or corner of the city suddenly insists on becoming an image. Her camera turns looking into lingering, pulling a passing moment out of Detroit’s visual rush and asking us to stay with it.

PET CT Scan Update: The large tumor mass in my stomach is gone, along with the cancer that had spread to my bone marrow. Only a small amount remains. I’m still bald. I’m still standing, and I still have plenty of fight left in me. Love. -m
