Today @Call4HK launches its campaign for the Hong Konger Promise of Refuge Act (S. 5606 / H.R. 10685), supported by @thecfhk, @hkdc_us, @hk_watch, Hongkonger Community Center, and Action for Hongkongers.
The bill, introduced by Senator Jeff Merkley and Representative Jim McGovern, would let Hongkongers covered by Deferred Enforced Departure apply for green cards. While they wait, they could not be detained or deported, and they could work.
Since 2021, Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) has protected Hongkongers in the US from deportation. It ends on February 5, 2027, and an extension is difficult. Since June, ICE has also routinely detained Hongkongers covered by DED.
What you can do, in two minutes:
1. Go to call4hk.us
2. Enter your zip code
3. Add one sentence about why this matters to you, and send
You do not need to share your immigration status. If you have US-based friends, coworkers, or family who care about Hong Kong, send them the link too.

Cantonese is in face a living fossil of a language resembling that spoken in ancient China, mainly during the Tang and Sung Dynasties.
For Julia Quon Julia BQ , preserving Cantonese is about more than keeping a language alive. It’s about helping patients feel heard, connecting with family, and making sure future generations don’t lose the opportunity to do the same.
As a nurse and Save Cantonese volunteer,
Julia has seen firsthand how language can build trust and dignity, especially during some of life’s most vulnerable moments.
But she’s also experienced the challenges of not being able to communicate deeply with her grandparents in Cantonese.
That’s why she’s passionate about preserving Cantonese and making sure more people have opportunities to learn it.
Swipe to read Julia’s story.

For generations, Cantonese has connected Chinese American families and communities across the city. CCSF’s Cantonese classes give students a chance to learn the language and connect with the people and culture that make San Francisco home.
These classes have faced cuts before.
Jeremy Lee identified the Cantonese program as a high-demand area, saying more students want to enroll than its one part-time instructor can accommodate. Elijah Ball said he would protect Cantonese language courses while consolidating unused campus space.
We’re sharing these public statements and program history to inform the community. This post is informational and does not represent an endorsement by CCSF campaign.
