Hwy 9 near Boulder Creek will close overnight Oct 26–27 for bridge work:
• Oct 26: 8 pm–6 am at San Lorenzo River Bridge
• Oct 27: 7 pm–6 am at Kings Creek Bridge
Detour via Hwy 17. One‑way traffic control returns the next mornings as bridge replacements continue.
The Santa Cruz County Governmental Building and Courthouse at 701 Ocean Street are closed until at least 1:30 p.m. for investigation of a suspicious package. We regret any inconvenience this may have caused members of the public with appointments or seeking services.
All other County facilities remain open. Many services can be accessed online at santacruzcountyca.gov. We will provide additional updates as we receive them.

Bystander video captures CAL FIRE CZU Engine 1794 responding on Wednesday to a commercial vehicle fire on Highland Way, right next to the Burrell Fire Station in Santa Cruz County.
Firefighters quickly contained the flames to the truck, preventing damage to the trailer and stopping the fire from spreading into nearby dry vegetation. Fortunately, no injuries were reported! 🧑🚒🚒🔥
