This is separate & not identical but victims of domestic violence will sometimes deny that they have been hurt or say that they’d hurt themselves; a friend may have to reason with them. The shock is such that they can’t allow themselves to believe that a person they had feelings for had hurt them. Unfortunately this can diminish the severity of the charges. The propensity to deny being mistreated or exploited extends to other aspects of life including politics.
For @marieclaire, I asked five women who say they were sexually assaulted in college what they did the morning after. Their answers were mundane, contradictory, devastating, and often nothing like what we expect trauma to look like. marieclaire.com/politics/mor…

"What happened to Jane Doe wasn't just the fact that she went to the Chi Phi house and seven men took advantage of her," says 18-year-old Cornell student Saya Taylor. "The entire system of Cornell University failed her. Students are outraged not because they're outraged solely at these seven men; they're outraged at the system that the university perpetrates. Rape culture and sexual assault culture thrives on campus."

ICE Agent at NYC Shooting Has History of Alleged Violence and Illegal Arrests: Brenden Cuni, ICE supervisor, has been accused of excessive force and tackling a pregnant woman. Several of his arrests were later found to be unlawful in federal court. wired.com/story/ice-agent-at…
Q: A number of the agent are in plain clothes and the vehicles are unmarked. Do you believe it was clear to the subject that he was being stopped by ICE? MARKWAYNE MULLIN: When you're doing undercover investigation, you're definitely not in a marked car and uniform

The cruel medical experiment on a black pregnant woman in Georgia will finally come to an end. Adriana Smith was declared brain dead at 9 weeks pregnant after an ER sent her home with blood clots in her brain. The hospital kept her body alive due to Georgia’s abortion ban: 🧵

As we move closer to the next administration, which will certainly restructure medical research as we know it, something very disturbing regarding women's health funding is afoot at the @NIH @NIHDirector

The issue with Walmart isn’t DEI, it’s the fact that in nine states alone, Walmart had 14,500 employees on SNAP and 10,350 on Medicaid. Instead of attacking corporations for diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, people should be calling out the low wages.

While working on this story I reached out to several experts in cyber harassment, doxing, etc. I was stunned when multiple experts in this field declined to speak to me on the record for fear of themselves becoming a target of Elon Musk cnn.com/2024/11/27/business/…

This is getting overlooked, but the whole premise of Trump's threat of tariffs is based on a lie. He's claiming Mexico must be bullied into stopping migrants. But Mexico is *already* doing this. That's a big reason crossings have dropped. 1/ (new piece) newrepublic.com/article/1888…

Just a quick note to international reporters: Trump does not actually appoint his cabinet as a prime minister would. Most of these people need Senate approval. So it’s wrong to describe them as though their appointment has already taken place. Now, Trump is trying to circumvent that process, and it’s unclear that Senators will do their job and block the obvious traitors and misfits. But that’s another issue.

US law is clear: No nation blocking US humanitarian aid can receive US weapons. Palestinian children are forced to eat pet food and bug infested flour, but @SecBlinken says there’s no need to change our policy. The Biden administration is refusing to comply with US law.
